Those Kids Are Free Near You

Returning from a spell with rugged Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia, a few years ago, a friend noticed teeth stained with blood, which didn’t phase overmuch, as they’d been cleaned by a local dental technician whilst there. More convinced by the caffeine theory, rather than that of the vampire, rising from the coffin scenario, and yet to be appraised of the Covid argument of the sleeping virus of hell, reawakened from the cave, where it had dwelt amongst the ‘sleepers’, as they’re called in sura Al-Kahf, ‘The Cave’ chapter (18) of the Koran (610-30 C.E.) of Islam’s Moslems, by a drink; that is, a victim. Rather than Al-Gol, which is the name of the demon drinker in the Arab world, Listerine antiseptic mouth wash, with the forced removal of even the tiniest amount of alcohol by Arabia’s equivalent of the FDA (Food and Drugs Authority), on the religious grounds that Al-Gol might be sleeping there, still seemed a better buy to a Christian, who’d so far only coffeed.

However, it being suggested that a visit to the local GP wouldn’t be amiss, sitting outside the surgery with the hoi polloi, the waiting area was invaded by bluff Northerners from England, which was rather surprising, as it was Budapest, Hungary, 1039 district, Békásmegyer III, 20 km from my usual abode in Kelenföld, 1115 district, Bp. XII, as my friend dwelt there. As an English language teacher, all things to do with personal oral hygiene are of concern, as damage to the speech centers of the brain, or the physical speaking apparatus itself, for example, tongue, vocal chords, or trachea ‘voice box’, is threatening to livelihood. ELT professionals, unable to speak, aren’t likely to survive.

The advent of Covid 19, emerging as a killer plague from a Wuhan city hospital, Hubei province, China, in December 2019, while the teacher was employed in Saudi Arabia was worrying, as a known symptom of the virus, causing severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), was brain damage, which might cause a speech impediment, or similar motor neurone dysfunction affecting pronunciation (see fig. 1), and even vocabulary range; if memory became affected. The Northerners, talking volubly about Covid 19, were assured by the Hungarians that they didn’t have it, as it wasn’t wanted by their people, a sentiment with which the teacher agreed, as he hadn’t heard of it either. However, a visit to the doctor seemed more called for than theretofore, and as the appointment time duly arrived, the teacher vaunted the antiseptic greetings and sat awhile to listen to the prognosis on his teeth and gums, stained as they were with what appeared to be blood for reasons unknown, as it wasn’t SARS Cov-2, after Christmas 2019, but Summer 2016, and no one had really paid that much attention to the less virulent strain in the 2002-04 outbreak of SARS Cov-1, like baseball bats, from a cave in Yunnan province, China, battering the crown atop the head, as a coronavirus, giving people brain damage, and clouds of gray matter in the shape of flatulence.

Fig. 1Pronunciation isn't articulation

Subsequent vaccine development meant that SARS was curable, and the German company BioNTech, in collaboration with US’ Pfizer for clinical trials, produced the first acceptable to drug regulators, brand name Comirnaty, in November 2020, so although often proving fatal if contracted, it wasn’t like the human immune deficiency syndrome (HIV), a virus similarly mutated from simians (SIV), rather than bats, resulting in ‘incurable killer disease’, acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), collapse of the organs of the body, and brain damage followed by brain death. However, what was clear was that the human race had a vampire, and that homosexuals’ transmission of HIV, through infected semen, inserted into the anus in sterile mockery of the human act of sexual reproduction, that is, species’ death, fit the description of the suspect. Because of the danger of contracting a disease whilst there, visits to the doctor are always fraught with suspicion. Despite an appeal to the antibiotic erythromycin, familiar since taking it for gangrene when completing a PhD thesis at Hull University, when black from ankle to thigh, Hull Royal Infirmary wanted to amputate the leg, after a minor bruise induced bone rot, that is, osteomyelitis, the advice from the doctor was to have an operation on the uvula, ‘grape’.

Fig. 2The uvula is what makes us humans

Found only in human beings, the uvula is an organ of speech. In the dialect of the county of Northumbria, England, ‘red’ is said with the ‘voiced uvular trill’ (see fig. 2), and in French, German, Hebrew, or Farsi, that is, Persian, which is a pluricentic language, originating in Pars (Persia), southwestern Iran, the uvula is used to form certain sounds. Used in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajekistan, and as Tajik by Uzbeks in Uzbekistan, Farsi’s the only language to rival the monopoly of Arabic in Islam, for example, Omar Khayyám’s (1048-1131) Rubáiyát, while the last Empire before Islam, the Sassanian (224-651 C.E.), also spoke Farsi, which suggests that Farsi is a last bastion for Arabs who resist Islam. The Moslem women of Islam, for example, who incidentally resemble grapes, wearing the one piece black burka to conceal themselves from the eyes of adultery, use the uvula to make a high pitched ululating noise, Zaghrouta (زغروتة), practiced in collective ritual evocation ( https://youtu.be/WfMadRajLPg ), that is, the uvula assists ovulation, and ameliorates the pain of menstruation, as lampooned in the movie, Deep Throat (1972), starring Linda Lovelace, who claimed it was genuine ‘rape  pornography’,1 suggesting that there was a much deeper significance to the furore over Salman Rushdie’s book, The Satanic Verses (1988), which are about a group of women worshipers forbidden by Islam, after being mentioned in the Koran, sura An-Najm, ‘The Star’ (53) chapter:

Have you considered al-Lat and al-’Uzzá?

And Manāt, the third one, the other?

Are you to have the males, and He the females?

What a bizarre distribution.’ (53: 19-22)

The passage refers to hermaphroditism, although allat means ‘animal’ in Hungarian, which is referred to as the ‘seed’ of Eve in the Bible (Gen: 3. 5), suppressed by misogyny. Sojourning in the Middle East’s Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Oman; and North Africa’s Libya and Sudan, where the people go to their mosques five times each day, called by the muezzin, to pray, had identified the teacher as a target for ‘ethnic cleansers’, which Christian Serb militia had been in nearby Yugoslav break-away states; Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the capital city, Sarajevo, had been called ‘the Jerusalem of the East’, as it cherished Farsi literature. However, a largely one-sided internecine conflict had gone on there, after the withdrawal in 1991 of communist Russia from territories occupied in Eastern Europe, after the ‘Red Army’ refused to withdraw, subsequent to its capturing Berlin, capital city of Germany, the aggressor, defeated in World War Two (1939-45), while the subsequent break-up of ‘superstate’ Yugoslavia, with the Croatian war (1991-2), and the Bosnian war (1992-5), embarrassed Christianity, with the Serbs setting up ‘rape camps’, for example, for upwards of 70, 000 Moslem women, as an aspect of ‘ethnic cleansing’, as that generation’s parentage would be ‘Christian’, that is, rather than ethnically Farsi centered Moslems, while the mass murder of men and boys was deployed by the Serbs as a simpler method.

With trepidation, the local town of Vác, 35 km north of the city of Budapest, was approached by train from Nyugati pályaudvar (Western railway) station, as the designated locale for the operation. The butchery soon over, after a general anaesthetic rendered the mind unconscious throughout, aftercare was a drink of tea, whereas the operated upon prefers coffee, and shown the door, friendless, as she’d left her victim alone there, returning to Budapest ahead of the fallout, roofless mouthed, the ethnically suspected boarded a train at Vác station (see fig. 3), with a purchased transport ticket for the purpose of returning to Buda, at the side of the river Danube opposite Pest, and Keleti pu. Just what affect the missing uvula, and inability to scream like a woman, would have on teaching English as a foreign language, irrespective of ethnic origin, was yet to be measured, but it was evident that being ethnically clean was a thing of some moment, so far as ethnic Hungarians were concerned, who were Magyar in their own language, magyarul, and lived in Magyorország, where two wrists carried things that won’t be borne, so it was helpful of local ‘businessmen’ to relieve themselves of unwelcome burdens.

Fig. 3 Vác railway station

It wasn’t until December 2019, when in Saudi Arabia, that it was noticeable how clever the ethic cleansers had been in removing what even they admitted was the first line of defence in the immune system to protect the body from collapsing through infection from the SARS virus. Trained in Blackboard platform online course delivery, after it was announced that SARS 2 was an epidemic that would ultimately kill millions throughout the world, the teacher’s efforts were formally curtailed in March 2020, although the British Airways’ passenger jet chartered by the UK government to evacuate citizen workers, trapped in Riyadh, wasn’t scheduled until June. With recourse to local health centers in Shuhada (Martyrs) district, east Riyadh, near the ring road’s huge Hilton Hotel (see fig. 4), and the Paris Gallery jewellery store, at the nearby Granada Mall there, Ash Shuhada street, مثلث الشهداء, Martyrs' Triangle, and the drive-up Crepe burger joint on Abu Jafar Al Mansour street, near the billet at the Adracom, which was obviously a draco motel, the certificate, assuring airport authorities that the passenger seeking egress didn’t have Covid 19, was issued by Dr. Aco.

Fig. 4 Hilton hotel, Shuada, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

On track, duly arriving at London’s Heathrow airport, as a transit passenger, it was only necessary to board the plane to Budapest, and disembark at Liszt Ferenc airport, Ferihegy, before returning to the humble abode to suffer the exigencies of quarantine for two weeks, or similar, then and later, which involved putting a large enough to read from a safe distance, red and black sticker, on the front door to let everyone know that a social pariah lived there, who’d traveled outside the country. It was either that, or incur a 300 US $ fine, which the teacher had to pay within a week of it being noticed that the sign on the door was a grey and white photocopy, affixed there, after a perusal of the directive on the internet, which contained a full color image, a b&w print from the trusty industrial strength Panasonic KX-MB1500 (see fig. 5), as it had to be, when it was largely disabled, after being dropped by baggage handlers at Borg El Arab Airport, Alexandria, Egypt, en route from the Riyadh Mall Gallery, Saudia Arabia, to Buda, wasn’t sufficient. Too late to avert the ‘spy’, it was later discovered that the colored version of the quarantine sticker (see fig. 6), given at the airport on arrival, had slipped under the bed, and out of mind, as the fatigued traveler collapsed unconscious on the day of return.

Fig. 5 KX-MB1500

The adaptive immune system is what jawed vertebrates, including humans, have, which explained why some ethnic cleansers amongst the Magyar hadn’t wanted the teacher to have an uvula as an identifying human appendage. The jaw is important for articulation, which as any well seasoned professional would explain is what English language students lack. Whereas most ‘Speaking’ tests, for example, those given by Cambridge at PET (Preliminary English Test) level, are designed to allow the examinee to demonstrate sufficient competency to company’s in the English native speaking world, so demonstrating the oral skills necessary to live and work, and focusing on pronunciation, that requires the examiner to listen to low, barely audible, speech, as low sound isn’t deemed an impediment to pronouncing correctly. To discern if pronunciation is correct (see fig. 7), what’s actually needed is correct articulation; to modulate correctly the sound being emitted from the voice box, so that the interlocutor can understand the meaning of the utterance, in accordance with the Cambridge descriptors at B1 level, according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), and corresponding to an Intermediate level of proficiency. As the uvula is particular to humans, it’s removal surgically is an attempt to reduce the speaker to the level of an animal, so making it difficult for English language to be taught, which is the aim of the ethnic cleanser, who doesn’t want anything to adulterate the purity of their ethnic origin.

To what extent the English are responsible for offloading English University graduates into Eastern Europe is largely dependent on the attendant circumstances. Trained to teach English in Kingston-Upon-Hull, East Yorkshire county, by European Training and Communications, ETC, etc., the students were refugees from the break-up of the former Yugoslavia, and graduating with a Trinity College, London, Teaching English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate on February 14th, 1995, trainees were encouraged to refrain from mentioning the wars there, for example, the Croatian war (1991-2), and the Bosnian war (1992-5), in which the Croatians helped the Bosnians against the Serbs, to avoid inducing trauma; for example, 70, 000 Moslem women, incarcerated in ‘rape camps’, built for that purpose, were raped by Serb Christian militia, at Vilina Vlas, 4 km north-east of the town and municipality of Viŝegrad, resting at the confluence of the Drina and Rzav rivers, in the village of Viŝegradska Banja, before the Republika Sprska, the region where Vilina Vlas was, became an entity of an independent Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Fig. 6 Quarantine sticker

The soon-to-be teacher, understanding that rape was how East European Christians ensured their ethnic ascent, was also expected to uncritically receive the false impression of Croats and Bosnians as sensitive souls, whereas the facts reveal a rather more universally brutish nature, for example, the Sijekovac massacre of Serb civilians, near Bosanski Brod, Bosnia and Herzegovina on 26th March, 1992, by Croat and Bosniak forces, didn’t rule out collusion between the English pogromers of their intelligentsia, whose skills and abilities threatened the status quo, and East European communists, whose anti-intellectualism was responsible for what Russian novelist, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, documented thoroughly in The Gulag Archipelago 1918-1956, An Experiment in Literary Investigation (1973), as slave labor camps. Established by Russia, after the October 1917 communist Revolution, led by Vladimir Ilyich ‘Lenin’ to depose Tsar Nicholas II’s oligarchy, and replace it with a factory system of control by workers, intellectuals were worked to death in the Soviet Eurasian gulag network, on the understanding that the human mind was thenceforth redundant.

Apart from being told that there’d be some ‘white stuff’, aftercare was over. As East Europeans generally have problems with articulation, best guess was a reference to US’ novelist Tom Wolfe’s The Right Stuff (1979), a semi-fictional account of astronaut training at the North American Space Administration (NASA), where those who passed the rigorous testing prove they have the ‘right stuff’, while the teacher didn’t pass muster with the ethnic cleanser, who was evidently white, rather than Moslem. Naturally, the ethnicity of the reprobate wasn’t ever an ascertainable subject for accurate assessment, as those obsessed with other’s cleanliness simply want to be assured that they’re clean, which means the ovens of Belsen, or something similar, from the perspective of those who aren’t quite sure that their neighbors are clean or not. Bergen-Belsen was a town in Germany, during World War II (1939-45), where people of doubtful cleanliness, that is, ethnicity, were killed and burned in ovens to make soap out of their bones, so that the Germans could be sure that they were clean. It was the ‘concentration camp’ system of the National Socialist (Nazi) Party, elected in 1933, and led by Adolf Hitler, a Christian.

In the Middle East, Islamic extremist ‘spies’ report on hand-washing. Those who fail to satisfy the spies that their hands were cleaned, after using the toilet facilities, are likely to be identified to ethnic cleansers, whose self-appointed role it is to make soap more freely available than theretofore. When the Arabs want to use the bathroom, and they appear to be politely seeking permission from the teacher, the disgruntled psychopaths, annoyed at having to be taught English, and being richer, perhaps a prince, or merely an oil sheikh, want the path to where the ‘soap’ is freely available for manufacture, that is, ‘Where do you live?’ For Arabs, English language teachers are Jesus figures, that is, soap in a better future, for example, the ethnic cleansing that took place in Darfur, Sudan, was engineered by government Arabs, who directed Janjaweed militia to pogrom black North African Moslems, whose blackness made it difficult to see if they’d soap, as the Arab Moslems soaped, which from the point of view of the teacher meant that Jesus’ color was largely irrelevant, if the spies near the soap dish in the sink by the pissoire thought hands weren’t being properly ablouted, as Jesus’ teaching was just soap to Arabs, as it’d been to Hitler and Stalin too.

Fig. 7 Cambridge PET ‘Speaking’ assessment criteria

As just one of the many ablouted peoples finding it difficult to live under soapism, the teacher’s hope was in Jesus, ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ (Mk: 12. 31) Meeting a man on the road to Gadarene, Jesus was told, ‘I am Legion.’ (Mk: 5. 9) Casting the demons out, they entered a herd of swine, which promptly ran off a cliff and drowned. Schizophrenia is the equivalent of not being sure, that is, concern over the cleanliness of an other’s hands results in ethnic cleansing, as doubt over cleanliness imputes uncleanness. The cleansers are demons, and the demon-possessed are obsessed with cleaning, as the English dramatist, William Shakespeare, observed in his play, MacBeth (c. 1606), when the protagonist, to remove a murder from their conscience, washes their hands repeatedly, saying ‘Out damnéd spot.’2 From the perspective of the ethnic cleanser, they can never be clean, as they’re murderers, while murder is how they attempt to clean, as the absence of an accuser psychologically removes the stain for the accused.

That Covid 19 was a ‘biological weapon’ to promote a schizophrenic obsession with others’ cleanliness, and so encourage ethnic cleansing, is likely. Although the conversation with the bluff Northerners, about the spreading of the virus, in the waiting area outside the doctor’s surgery, might have seemed innocuous, the appearance of a ‘traditionalist’ inside the room, while the patient is receiving advice as to what to do about their condition, who begins to explain about his ‘tradition’, and what it has to do with the patient, wasn’t. Moslems prepare meat as halal, that is, bloodless. For the simple minded, that’s traditional, whereas it’s culturally ethnic, while it’s customary to take off shoes before walking on carpets. It’s a rule that the doctor’s room is for private consultations, whereas it isn’t a rule that hands have to be washed: it’s customary. Obsession with the washing of hands is a death sentence, on the part of the obsessive, towards the subject of their obsessiveness, which is what English language teachers face, as the victims of ethnic cleansers. Jesus was believed to be a better sacrifice than an animal, because more efficacious, as Dror Ben Ami wrote, in a 2015 issue of The Jerusalem Post, ‘… the blood sacrifice of Jesus was a more effective way to remove sins …’3 The perspective of the ethnic cleanser is religious. If there are no enemies to accuse them of their sin of murder, there’s no sin, which is proven if the English language teacher has his uvula removed, as then it’s clear to everybody that it’s an animal being sacrificed. Moreover, as Jesus was a more efficacious human sacrifice, according to the Jew, Ami, it isn’t of any relevance whether the sacrifice is human or animal. Only the efficaciousness of slaying his victims is useful for he who wants to wash his hands of a few. They don’t even have to be enemies, or teachers; just die.

Concerns

Concerns

As well as requiring disclosure barring service (DBS) police checks, home and abroad, in a process of criminalizing the English language teaching profession, by suggesting teachers are a danger to their charges per se, contracts are being drawn up for ‘summer camp’, allowing property searches to ensure companies keep their industrial secrets.

Apart from limiting opportunities to those willing to accept such searches it’s handicapping the provision of English language teaching by restricting the use of professionals to those who are ‘in the know’, as they say, which is pandering to paedophiliacs, in the sense that the criteria for working with children is that of the paedophile. What the paedophile says is that it prefers camp guards, while the teacher has to be ‘diplomatic’, which is a euphemism for ‘castrated’.

It isn’t about the teachers’ sexual preferences, or orientation, it’s about what the English want from their ‘prevent awareness’ campaigning, which is at best asexual, and at worst neutralized, teachers, and that’s insulting, as ‘camp’ guards, lifeguards for the ‘pool, and all those concerned with ‘safeguarding’ activities, are expected to be similarly unaware.

Being neutered interferes with the additional objective of dealing with bullying for sexual favours, or outright terrorist demands, as the perforce naïve teacher isn’t in a position intellectually to surmise any issue, which places the burden heavily upon the student to notify. Expecting the teacher to be a diplomat in this way has a deleterious effect on the educational process, as the libidic energy reserved by the employee for channelling into the preparing and administering of lessons is redistributed in unnatural self-monitoring, and dispassionate disinterestedness, whereas monitoring of students, with at least an appearance of passionate interest in their progress, activities, and welfare, is what’s required.

The extending what summer camp providers seem to think of as their ‘police powers’ to the arena of intelligence gathering is familiar to teachers who’ve worked overseas where similar restrictions place the teacher in a category of those who’re disabled technologically, sometimes through outright theft of technical equipment and materiel, even while passing through airport controls, constituting ‘restraint of trade’ by making the individual unemployable, because deprived of the tools necessary to complete their contractual obligations.

Shouldn’t English language providers be instructed that such ‘dumbing down’ of the teaching profession is illegal? English grammar isn’t an industrial or military secret. Pretending that ELT providers are national, and international, security organizations, is ruining the lives of professional educators. If left unregulated such companies are abrogating the authority of the state to function as non-educational centres that nevertheless require the veneer of employing ELT professionals as camouflage, which again is insulting.

Especially given the inordinate care taken to ensure the teacher has passed all of the educational requirements, as well as being admitted a citizen of good standing, and having the requisite prevent awareness and safeguarding qualifications, not excluding a first aid certificate, and that of a lifeguard’s, to mask the fact that the summer camp wants educators only as a sop to a jolly.

In social scientist George Orwell’s ‘scifi’ novel, 1984 (1949), the antisocial slogans of the central government organ, Ministry of Truth, are ‘Freedom is Slavery’, ‘Peace is War’, and ‘Ignorance is Strength’.1 Prevent awareness and safeguarding presuppose terror, that is, slavery, war, and ignorance, which isn’t the perspective of the educator. The ‘IngSoc’ (English socialism) of Orwell’s dictator, ‘Big Brother’, is allied with the continent of Oceania, as ‘Airstrip One’ is at war with the continents of Eurasia and Eastasia by turns. We, the teachers, are not. Threatening qualified staff with surveillance of their communications devices is intimidation, and as safeguarding and prevent awareness certificate holders are well aware, it’s illegal ‘harassment’.

During camp concentrating, teachers are expected to act as ancillary ‘security guards’, after completing anti-terrorist training on the government website, which effectively introduces staff to students as ‘agents of terror’, whereas the Chinese from Eastasia, for example, and/or Uzbekistanis from Eurasia, aren’t.

Protectionism that excludes educators from education is ‘jobs for the boys’ with the ‘old school tie’, for example, needing a reference, where the referee understands they’re being offered an employment opportunity, and a few words of character assassination can secure the post. As such places are available because of the intellectual capabilities of the qualified, it’s insulting that the criminal can institutionally refer themselves. It’s a system approximating to brain slaving, where the posts offered are dependent on the efforts of the educated for their existence, while the criteria for acceptability remains ‘other’.

In an advantageous position are biceptual ‘activity leaders’, who didn’t sacrifice the culture of body sculpting to stand before the smart bored and educate. Modernity, having made security phone-e’s possible, risks placing its kids at the mercy of bullies’ muscles, which places the onus on the educator to obtain at least a second degree in physical education (PE), as if it isn’t insulting to suggest that an MA in applied linguistics is an insufficient contribution to a role as grammar teacher at summer camp.

Cultural Sensitivity

Cultural Sensitivity

Sounding institutional, the word `religious` connects with ritual, or `established` in the sense of `establishment`, whereas `spirit` is a relational attitude corresponding to inner belief, or mental outlook, definable in terms of distrust of, or disregard for, materiality, wherein the individual discerns that which entraps or deceives the mind, so as to involve the body in activities likely to result in decay or degeneration. Religious activities, in the form of ritualized observance of rules and modes of behavior, are designed to ensure the safety of the body and/or mind in relation to what has been called, `the world, the flesh, and the devil` (Bernal, J. D. 1929), that is, religion observes God`s laws as helpful in maintaining the body/mind duality, while the spiritual individual is someone who has accepted that the world of the spirit is a source of aid when encountering the possible pitfalls and entrapments posed by wholeheartedly agreeing to engage with the external physical reality without reflection and unaided by religious ritual or spiritual attitude.

English language teaching poses a dilemma. How to satisfy students` interest in other religious beliefs, while remaining culturally sensitive to the local religion`s hegemony. Defining `spiritual` is more often than not simply a matter of equating it with `good` and steering well clear of descriptions of religious ritual and observance. However, there are some aspects to religion which are non-contentious. Religion presupposes a supreme divinity, called `God` in the West, and `Allah` more often than not in the Middle East, which is about as far as an English language teacher is advisable to go when discussing the differences.

Judeo-Christianity arose in Palestine, through the teachings of the Jewish Messiah, Jesus, and became the New Testament of the Bible, after the history and law of the Jews, that is, the Torah and Talmud, called by Christians the Old Testament of the Bible, which was historically followed by the Koran (610-30 C.E.) of Mohamed`s Moslems in Islam. The Koran is a history and law of the descendants of Ishmael, the second son of Abraham, whose first son, Isaac, founded Judaism, which called God variously; `Jehovah`, `Eloah`, `Yahweh` (there are no written vowels in the Hebrew word, YHWH, so the pronunciation of the tetragrammaton is traditional), etc. `Allah` and `Eloah` are homonyms suggestive of synonymity, although it`s testing the bounds of cultural sensitivity to suggest identity. Textual analysis of the Koran and the Old Testament is revelatory of more similarity than difference, which would be expected if the naming of the supreme deity was equivalent to an understanding of that being`s actual nature.

Traditionally understood as given to him by angels, that is, beings assisting the supreme deity, the Koran of the Prophet Mohamed ibn Abdullah is seen in human terms as legitimizing Ishmael`s birth from a woman not Abraham`s wife, Sara, that is, her maid Hajer, given to Abraham by Sara after the birth of Isaac, her son, because the birth had made her womb barren. Judaism espoused monogamy, while Islam embraced a maximum four-wife polygamy, and although Christianity favors monogamy it accepts Jesus` simple teaching on the nature of promoting peaceful relations: `Love your neighbor as you love yourself.` (Mk: 12. 31). Sometimes erroneously used to mean `religious` in English language teaching and/or usage, because `spiritual` could be applied to Jews, Moslems, and Christians, spirituality isnt related to belief, and believers aren`t religiously identical. Consequently, the word `spiritual` isn`t as contentious as `religion` when communicating with students of different religious backgrounds, so it`s use is more advisable in open discussion, because less likely to provoke accusations of cultural insensitivity.

Jesus was crucified by agents of the Roman Empire of Tiberius and experienced Resurrection and Ascension to heaven, according to what are called the Gospels of the four Evangelist disciples (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) of the Jewish Messiah, that is, Jesus `Christ`, `the chosen`, which are corroborative narratives of the extraordinary life of the miracle working healer and proselytizer, Jesus, but in the Koran Jesus isn`t crucified, and rather enters into paradise as an Islamic teacher. In Judaism, Jesus` name doesn`t figure at all, and the narrative of the Patriarch Abraham, his son Isaac, and descendant Moses, `the law giver`, who according to the Old Testament received the Ten Commandments of God from a mountain top on tablets of stone during the Jews` exodus from their period of captivity as slaves in Egypt in the reign of Pharaoh Thutmoses III, which are the prohibitions by which Jews live against the taking of life in different ways, figures more highly. Research can provide a more satisfying and culturally acceptable framework for discussion amongst Jews, Moslems, Christians, Hindus, and Buddhists, etc., in which none of them find objections, and that suffices an English language teaching approach posed with the problems of living and entering into new cultures, or welcoming those from other backgrounds with the minimum discomfort affordable to the welcomed and the welcomers in social terms.

An Ex-Spat's Cure: TEFL at the BBQ

An Ex-Spat's Cure: TEFL at the BBQ

When I first arrived in Hungary, I was invited to a local BBQ for bacon. Curious, I went along to discover that Hungarian bacon has no meat attached to the fat, that is, it’s only fat. Perturbed, I recalled that David Essex track ’Imperial Wizard’:

’Hungary is hungry and the people are broke,

Imperial Wizard - salt mine king,

What kind of state of mind must your state be in?’1

Of course, when Hungary was Greater, it could boast Vlad, ’the impaler’, who was perhaps the inspiration for the drac’, ’Imperial Wizard’, because it was Vlad Dracul who became the model for Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula (1895), which celebrated the bloodthirsty activities of the 15th century ruler of Wallachia, who impaled his victims on stakes, in the shape and form of Dracula, a vampire who had become immortal by drinking the blood of his victims. Consequently, there was no meat on the fat to discourage the cooking of red meat by the gathering at the barbecue because of the attraction that bloody meat has for the vampire. Either that or they couldn’t afford any meat. However, the allegorical concept of the track inspired by ’dracs’ in a music industry infamous for its leeches led me to examine the bacon more thoroughly. Bacon, of course, was the Elizabethan playwright who was deemed by some to have written plays attributed to William Shakespeare, so perhaps the Hungarians were expressing an opinion on Baconism:

’Open your windows, let the sun shine on in,

There's more to life than killing, killing, killing ...’

As an Ex-pat and a writer, I understood that Shakespeare had his own plays, and that the 20, 000, 000 Jews sent to the ovens after the election of the German Nationalist (Nazi) Party in 1933 weren’t the schweinhund at their BBQ. The Nazis also burned books while waving their copy of the Bible, that is, Shakespeare’s plays were accepted as his whereas Bacon’s weren’t. Or, in other words, although the Jews weren’t pagan, their Bacon, that is, their books, weren’t going to escape being burned either. I was an Ex-pat to the English, which meant that the value placed on a writer’s brains by Hungary’s people was equivalent to that of a headless Jew on a BBQ spit.

Chewing the tasteless stuff thoughtlessly, I deduced that this was how ethnic cleansers spat on an Ex-pat. It’d been all the rage in Eastern Europe during the 1990s when the war in nearby Yugoslavia was at its height, for example, Serbian Christian militia in Bosnia (1992-5) built ’rape camps’ to contain upwards of 70, 000 Moslem women as the break-up of the Balkans into independent states on ethnic lines gathered momentum.  The Hungarians had lost the First World War (1914-18), which’d been Germany’s first attempt to enslave the East for paganism, and had been forced to sign the Treaty of Trianon in the Palace at Versailles, France, on June 4, 1920, seceding from the territory of Transylvania, for example, where Vlad had lived. Because Vlad was pagan, it seemed obvious that there was some bacon that oughtn’t to be saved. Observing that the fat had been in the fire at the BBQ, the absence of any meat suggested that Bacon and his books could be saved.  There was hope for a writer perceived as an Ex-pat teacher of English to foreigners. Even if I were unwashed, and with a dirty neck beneath a stumped appearance, I accepted another piece of spat fat as being meet for the Baconic hero of the unfolding drama.

In a country where you don’t speak the language, it’s like being deaf and dumb, although there’s the advantage of seeing clearly the world around undisturbed. Being prodded regularly like cattle through airport terminals, for example, affords a perspective on Catholics, Protestants, and ethnic cleansers that others can’t afford. Whether beef or Bacon, victims are pagans, because the victimizers say so.  Like the debate over whether men should drink tea and be tea men, or coffee and be caffeine men, the daemon that’s the vampire of the coffin prefers the deaf and dumb, so knowledge of a foreign language for an Ex-pat helps among the barber’s queuers waiting for a choice cut is essential equipage in teaching environments where the students can describe their educator as anything from a spy to a spider and be believed by their own culture, because in this way it feels cleansed.

In Christianity, for example, Jesus is crucified by the Romans because his disciple, Judas, found him alone with a woman and suggested that the ’perfume’ be sold to raise money, and Jesus admonished him: ’Leave her alone.’ (Mk: 14, 6) Suiting advice to pointed explanation, Judas sold Jesus to the Jewish religious police, the Pharisees, for ’thirty pieces of silver’, and Jesus was killed as a ’dissident’ preachiing, ’Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ (Mk: 12. 31) In Islam, however, the story is that there was a man called Jesus, but it wasn’t him, that is, Jesus was a shell. Consequently, the torture and murder of men is how society perceives itself cleansing, and it’s ethnocentric. In simple terms, people can be tortured to death, because it isn’t them, they’re only shells. Or, in other words, the Romans were a foreign Empire imposing a reign on the Jews in Palestine. It was necessary to learn their language in order to avoid being victimized, which is what the Jews weren’t able to achieve in Germany where they were shells to the Nazis. In Hungary, ’Boldog uneppeket!’ means ’Happy New Year!` It’s important not to be perceived as an empty shell; if you want to teach:  ’I am the way and the truth and the life.’ (John: 14. 6)

In Jeddah With The Big Cheese Knife

In Jeddah With The Big Cheese Knife

Scrambling for bread crusts in Budapest began to pall after a while as usual. Working for the local Economic University was economic for the local economy, because the Budapesti Gazdasági Egyetem - (B.G.E.) didn`t pay foreigners until the period of their employment was over. Thank God for an entire semester dodging ticket inspectors, thought Yours Truly, with the prospect of an initial journey from Budapest`s Northern railway station, Kelenföld pályaudvar, to the Eastern railway station, Keleti pályaudvar, looming in prospect, as the long voyage to the outpost of the bastion of former Communist thinking about money sought some good advice from the notorious rastafarian Capitalist thinker on the same subject - Dr Usher I. The students were the usual bunch of largely disinterested monied aristocracy forced to go there by their parents, or they`d disinherit. But it was the impossibility of the journey that`d keep my readers` eyes riveted to the page, I knew. How to get there with a single transportation ticket. It was all I could afford, and no sign of the moneywise `budgies` at the B.G.E. affording the travel costs. At least until it was time to break their own fingers to force themselves to part with the coins.

There was a route under the city via the new green Metro 4 (2014) from Kelenföld pu. railway station to Keleti pu. railway station, then onward via the older red number 2 Metro (1970) towards Örs Vezér Tere, which meant the square of the leader, Örs who, according to legend, was a chief amongst seven others in 895 A.D., when the Magyar (Hungarians) settled the Carpathian Basin surrounded by its mountain fastness. The local suburban railway at Örs Vezér Tere went out of the city towards the city of Vasvár, which of course meant `Iron Castle`, because it was almost impossible to penetrate; even if you were employed in its environs. The German National Socialist Party would have been proud of this railway system, and the various modes of transportation that could have serviced its octopus-like movement of Jews in the 1930s, was my guess.

I knew Vasvár, because I`d been there for some major surgery on the vocal organs subsequent to an infection contracted in Arabia, while being forced to provide conversational English by the local `death camp` operators there, and who were feigning the provision of English teaching to mask the true nature of their mafia activities. I was told by the receptionist in the local GP`s surgery that the old lag, who`d invaded my air space, while the GP was giving me a consultation, was a Hungarian (Magyarul) traditionalist who was insisting that my uvula be removed, so that the true denizens of Hungary (Magyarország) could practice their tradition of ritualizing the extinction of the English patience by first forcing me to lose my capacity for speaking in my own native tongue. Bullied off to Vasvár, Yours Truly ended up having his uvula extracted by a surgeon, whose after care consisted of saying there`d be some `white stuff`. Arriving at Örs Vezér Tere would be difficult, even though avoiding Vasvár was a certainty, because getting a train there wasn`t logically inclusive within the proposed itinerary, but who knew? This was Hungary, where hungry people don`t make fixed plans about anything except following the meat van waiting for a thrown foreign bone.

If I bought a 300 HUF ticket, about a `jeep` (GBP), I could travel three Metro stops. That meant I could go from Kelenföld pu. green 4 Metro to Keleti pu. red 2 Metro and then on to Örs Vezér Tere for the price - or did it? The open conjecture was that the three stop 300 HUF ticket was for Metro hopping, that is, such a ticket could take someone from the blue 3 Metro (1976) to the `world heritage site` yellow 1 Metro (1896) by hopping across Déak Tere (Square Students), for example, where there was a confluence of red 2, blue 3 and yellow 1. The alternative hypothesis was that the ticket buyer could remain on the Metro car for as long as they needed to but getting off at a third stop was the maximum afforded by the 300 HUF ticket. Best not to inquire, thought Yours Truly, and opted for the riskier option. Traveling by tram as much as possible, and getting off as soon as the ticket inspectors appeared. It made the journey slower but cheaper, although the equivalence in terms of terror was obviously intentional. At Örs Vezér Tere It was necessary to get tram number 3 for two stops, and although there was a bus to take me on to the `Budgie` (B.G.E), where I`d parrot the daily nonsense for the incarcerated, the prospect of being terrorized by ticket inspectors on a crowded mode of transportation that made it difficult to see the security forces getting on or off persuaded Yours Truly to hobble on regardless to the gates of the guarded citadel of financial wherewithal without a ticket.

For the interested, a 450 HUF ticket is valid for a single journey, that is, between Metro stops of any distance, and it`s possible to get off one Metro line (1, 2, 3, 4), and onto another, without purchasing another ticket, so long as you don`t leave at any of the Metro stations for a sojourn out in the fresh air. There`s also a time limit for the use of the three stop 300 HUF ticket, which affords egress to do some shopping or whatnot, but woe betide the holder of the time expired ticket (30 mins) if the Metro guards spot it. Most people buy a monthly pass for 9, 500 HUF (30 jeeps), which affords them the unlimited use of any mode of transport within the city of Budapest`s limits, and so the affluent forget they`re kept in terror by the smiling inspectors, who`re plotting their extinction as Communist `labor camp` slaves in a calculatedly monitored Russian-stlye Gulag replete with CCTV hideouts to detect a dip in clothing allowance indicative of a future rag and boneyard denizen if the ghoul hags with their guard dogs can get their teeth into you.

One of the tricks is the `backstage pass` routine, where the employed and the employer feign an understanding based on the notion that the local security admit teachers without let or hindrance to the institution where they`re nominally ensconced as honored guests. In fact the guards perceive it as an opportunity to cast suspicion and aspersions, not to mention the asperity of comments encouraging local polizei to follow the ELT pro around like a bad smell preparing the accusative. Without a pass to get in and out of the workplace, you`re a target for hit men devoted to thinking of you as an espionage agent working for a foreign power, or just a mugger`s victim, because you have no protective plastic announcing you`re legitimacy, and so no status as anything but a killer`s target, or a hoodlum`s `mark`. Asking for the key to the classroom, or a board rubber, is fraught with death`s auguries. And heaven fore fend  if you should require a computer screen linked to your laptop to be used as a projector of a lesson carefully created at home, or even the activation of the Bored`s Smarts  to facilitate the educative process. Ridding oneself of the chalk that reminds you of your `native speaker` primitivism, in comparison to the technologically advanced Aryan supermen and women you`re entertaining with your futile antics before the bored, requires the activating of the IT `death squads`, whose remit it is to deny foreigners access to things as secret as Yahoo e-mail.

Having completed the contract with the `bácsi` (uncle) at the `Budgie` for a semester of English language provision from the coursebook, New Insights Into Business English, and supplementary matériel, supposed wannabe U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law Enforcement) agent, Dr Russia, was told, `the cheque is in the post`, and that he`d not be needed for the following semester, because ELT from a `native` wasn`t a part of the upcoming B.G.E. menu for the ensuing period of cloistered studies. Unconsumed by the Eastern European paramilitarized zone, I contracted with Questionable Unauthorized Access Consolidated (QUAC) for a stay in the heat of Arabia`s `devil`s kitchen` where the fleeced all go. The QUAC doctor summarily arrived in - Bahrain - for a medical enroute to the capital city of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh. Authorized to spend up to 400 US $ there, I arrived without any. The Phoenicia hotel was a goodish place, but it wasn`t clear whether breakfast or anything else was paid for, and I`d been authorized to spend 400 US $ I didn`t possess. Dodging the waiters, I bagged as much grub as I could during the limitedly patrolled breakfast period, and starved the rest of the day. Stunned as often as possible by X-Rays administered by purportedly medical personnel, I staggered about the proximate environment until I found a dry cleaners that`d do a couple of shirts for a US 10 $ note.

My contract said `Dammam University`, so I remained unsurprised when told I`d been booked on the airline Flynas to go to Abha city, and that I was authorized to take 400 US $ with me. Leaving the Flynas plane with its mooning logo, I discovered in Abha that I`d be employed as a purveyor of English usage at the Khamis Mushayt college attached to the King Khalid University`s Preparatory Year Program (PYP), an Intensive English Program (IEP) for University admittance for those studying medicine and electrical engineering. Khamis Mushayt translated as `fish market`, so I was again unsurprised to discover I`d be the QUAC at the men`s, rather than the women`s college. The students were amenably indifferent to such things as language laboratories without the capacity to deliver audio material, but I created a deal of furore when downloading MP3s from an Open Forum 2 coursebook website where supplementary tasks for each Unit could be had and, putting it on a flashdrive, which I then gave to the students, told them they`d be studying this in the absence of the official CD that went with the coursebook, but that the administration couldn`t find. Turning up brusquely for the session, I discovered the door locked, while be-thobbed faces scurried about looking worried that a teacher had asked them to listen. After a second such session I drew the locked door to the attention of management and - `Open Sesame!` - I strolled nonchantly inward with audio transcript, worksheet, question sheet, and answer sheet. Just in case the kids had forgotten the books. If the audio wasn`t playable, thanks to the prevalence of the IT death squads globally, they could read the transcript, answer the questions on the worksheet, and I`d give them printed copies of the answers, so that they couldn`t say I was unintelligible, although they might complain that they couldn`t read, but then I wasn`t responsible. I was only in charge of improvements, which they hadn`t.

After a lesson observation by marched-in colleague, Augie, I wrote to Fart, who was in charge of the audio sessions from his desk in his office, and thanked Augie `Snuff` Tin, who`d been promoted to `supervisor` for just that very special occasion, for his assassination attempt on me, a fellow professional: `... he did scaffold them`. As the US army similarly `scaffolded` Saddam? Augie also remarked on the Bingo: `T told the Ss to go to pay 19 on the textbook. It was a writing exercise.`2 Personally, I only ever pay 21 when it`s Pontoon. It reminded me of a lesson observation I`d had from `halls of Moctezuma to the shores of Tiipoli` Bren Gunn, before the teachers all had to leave due to Libya`s civil war in 2011, `Unfortunately, this lesson did meet the standards required by Bull language school.` As the QUAC instructor at the Fish Market college, Abha, I hadn`t been told I`d need a DUKW to bridge my ad hoc Navy Seal exercises, but as Douglas Adams` dolphins wrote when they left Earth in The Hitch Hikers` Guide To The Galaxy (1984), `So long, and thanks for all the fish!` My debit card indicated that I`d received cash from the Budgie in Budapest, and it was only March, which meant that since I`d begun teaching at the University of Economics in Budapest in September, only 7 months had passed before I was cashed up by the Budgie. It must be something of a record, I conjectured. Shortly after my debit card stopped functioning, and it wasn`t until my return I was told that a `suspicious transaction` for 291 HUF (79 p) had resulted in the blocking of the card`s usefulness in, for example, paying online for an entry/exit visa to afford me egress from Saudi Arabia whenever I chose to leave.

Promoted to Regional Director by QUAC, under the auspices of Asim Kurd, the head honcho, I bridged it over to Riyadh Telecom and Information college on another Flynas plane, while marveling at the mooning arse logo, and recollecting that the moon is masculine in Arabia. A sim card wasn`t to be had even for cut diamonds at the Telecom and Information college, of course, and the Saudi Telecommunications Company (STC) next door on Abdulaziz street were happy to provide a modem for 320 SAR, but baulked at the sim needed to make the gizmo functional. Hairy scenes of an irate authentic visa holder complaining at being mugged by STC for 320 SAR ensued. I was told my passport was `out of order`, because the number for the visa appended by the border patrol guards wasn`t accurate. It`s necessary to have a valid visa to obtain a residence permit in Saudi, because it`s unlikely that anyone with an iqama would be refused a sim. After getting my iqama without a query, I got a sim from another STC outlet, and QUAC head honcho, Asim Kurd, demanded immediate access to my Google e-mail account, so he could `line manage`.

I was around the corner from QUAC head office at the hotel Taran -tula? The journey from the college was so labyrinthine and besotted with scaffolding, I could only suppose that the richer folk were playing `crazy Gulf`, and that the balls wouldn`t go into the holes unless there were major construction works resulting in seriously insurmountable diversions. Though diverted, I understood that I wasn`t going to win any prizes as the ball, and I kept a wary eye open for the tarantula, which I supposed might be looking to have one for dinner, and thereby thwart the trapdoor spiders, generically labeled euctenacidae, which is pronounced `a  new Dana CD` and there were some in the stores, because Dana `Dinner` Halabi is a born-in-Kuwait (1987) blonde and boobed Lebanese pop Princess with big hits. Who are you? for example, that is, Enta Min? (2006) is the platter containing `I`m Dana` (`Ana Dana`), with its lyric: `You'll see my dance, and my coquetry, and you'll be my precious; all my love.`1  Precious, of course, was the name of the ring in Tolkien`s The Lord Of The Rings (1954) carried by Frodo into the lair of Shelob, the giant spider, before being unmade in the fires of the volcano, Mt Doom, so causing the fall of dark Clod Hopper, the security guard. Frodo killed Shelob, because he didn`t want to be her million hairies, so Dana only looks good enough to eat: `... open your eyes and you eat Turkish delight.`

Ibraheehee was the administrator at the Riyadh coll, and my tasks were to supervise the program at Heil and Burydad by communicating management`s orders to the head teachers there, who`d pass on the instructions to their hapless minions. I had an office to myself but it locked when closed on the inside, which meant either keeping it open so that anyone could drop in for a bull session while I was trying to function as an administrator without a printer, or photocopier, or internet, or phone, or paper aeroplane to throw out of the window with careful spidery handwriting. Ibraheehee suggested that the teacher`s register be kept in my office, rather than where it was available to the teachers to append their signatures to anytime in the room set aside for the teachers to use for their own administrative work, so that I`d have to let them in. It was a curiosity repeated in the transport department, where the driver explained that the door couldn`t be unlocked from the inside by the transportees, but they had to wait for him to get out and open it for them when the vehicle reached its destination, that is, the College for Telecom and Information, or the Taran ( -tula?) hotel. The prisoners would then disembark, released into the fear of being eaten by the advertised large hotel spider, or as the unreleased `chain gang` work detail at the coll.  As QUAC Regional Director, I was assigned the role previously filled by Augie `Snuff` Tin, and observed the teachers` classes without finding anything remarkable to criticize. I understood it was a serious oversight when I was summarily sent to Jeddah on another Flynas mooner, and the Mohamed Bin Knife college for Sciences and Security Studies to teach English to the border patrol guards, who wanted someone to teach them nautical English for their new torpedo boats, and who immediately sentenced me to sit in the kitchen for a week before asking, `Who are you?` Not an euctenacidae, thought I. Asseverating that I hadn`t a contract through QUAC, or permission to be there in Jeddah, the big cheese, Knife, was out to pare a few strips off me.

Resigned to fate, I mooned my fifth nation crossing plane ride on Flynas and returned to Riyadh. Entombing myself at the Al Manzil Nokhba hotel on Abdulaziz boulevard I awaited developments. I was on my fourth blender, and third water heating jug. Although that might seem excessive to the inexperienced traveler, it`s far more comfortable to buy new equipment for everyday use than to moon on aboard a Flynas jet with pots and pans stashed away in the luggage rattling like a lawnmower. In Abha I`d paid 400 SAR for a printer with actual ink bottles to produce color pictures on the printed matter I`d distribute to the students to make my job easier, and I`d bought another supply of ink bottles for 180 SAR before I left for Riyadh as QUAC Regional Director. Impossible to transport, I`d left it in the accommodation provided by QUAC, who apparently didn`t consider relocation costs for their managerial staff a thing to ascribe any importance to. Given 2 hours to leave Abha mooning aboard a Flynas jet, I managed it, but had to leave a shirt behind. Was it a shirtlifter conspiracy? After some discussion about the entry/exit visa with prices ranging from between 200 to 400 SAR, eventually I was stiffed by QUAC admin for 600 SAR before purchasing an e-ticket back to Europe for 2, 300 SAR from Somee, an arranger of trips.

Mooning through the airways with Flynas well past midnight from King Khalid International, Riyadh, I arrived at Turkey`s Ataturk Airport, Istanbul, around 5. 30 am, while the Haj pilgrims were beseeching the transit area for passage home far and near after fulfilling the obligation imposed upon Moslems in Islam to visit the shrine of Abraham in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, at least once in their lives, and so I had to wait perforce from 5. 40 to 7. 00 am for my flight onward, which I missed because the queue didn`t get me there `til 7. 15 am. No worries for the airport heroes. I would pay 454 US $ as a penalty, or 320 US $ for a new ticket from Turkish Airlines, who`d once managed to lose my baggage between Dammam and Budapest after a previous stopover in Istanbul. As the impoverished owner of but a single black mournful suit, because Turkish Airlines lost my other green, I was doomed to cut a graveside figure as I passed along with the rest of those who`d been meat for the Abha tour.

Onward to Budapest, Ferihegy airport, where my luggage was destined to be lost again as confusion reigned over which bag was mine. Getting home for 50 US $, the taxi driver opened the boot to reveal a bag not Yours Truly. Frantically, we raced back to the airport for another 50 US $, while the yellow cabby assured me with some aplomb that he`d wait to ferry me back to my abode, that is, the converted shoe-box with toilet installed that I call Bide-A-Wee, and of course for another 50 US $. Pleading ignorance and stupidity - to no surprised looks from anyone at all - I found the miscreant black holdall with the luggage lady, who`d in fact told me where I should look as soon as I arrived. Perhaps it was something to do with The Burly Character, who`d insisted on carrying my luggage to the taxi when I arrived? No matter! Weaving cheerily away from Luggage Lady with the prize, I strode out to the sunshine cab. Thankful that those tremulous darkling hours mooning at the Earth with Flynas were well and truly behind me. My neighbors were as usual most welcoming with suggestions of pest controllers to keep down the bug population pouring out of my walls and into theirs. The darlings. I got a spray can of Zappo Bug Extinguisher, and cremated several insect corpses with a ritualized blow-torch amid a pile of old Page 3s from the UK`s `Soaraway` Sun newspaper, and in front of a beetle-browed crowd representing the block.

What English language teachers (ELT`s) are expected to make of the current fad for distinguishing between the four skills, is largely situational, but the recent activity among course book providers, such as Q: Skills, affords some clue to the thinking of employers with regard to English teaching providers. Leaving aside the role of the English language teaching provider in terms of their role as an employer of English language teachers, the international employers` relationship with the publishers of English language teaching course books, which includes government institutions, and their military, is evident from the combining of the reading and writing skills in Sarah Lynn`s Q: Skills Special Edition: Reading and Writing (2013) course book,1 and Sarah Lynn`s Q: Skills Special Edition: Listening and Speaking (2013) course book, which are similarly indicative of the developing relationship between employers and publishers to the exclusion of ELT providers as employers of English language teaching professionals.

Although most ELT`s qualify with a certificate from a recognized awarding body, such as the Cambridge CELTA, or Trinity College London`s TESOL Cert., many are much more highly qualified with an M.A. in Applied Linguistics, etc., although the teaching certificate remains a basic standard by which all are examined as to their aptitude for the task. Recent developments in team-teaching are such that a non-Moslem, with an M.A. in Applied Linguistics, or less, can be asked to team-teach with a fellow professional operating at a professional level of English language teaching much lower than the westerner, so that the workload upon the westerner is increased, while the non-native speaking Moslem, or other national, jollies things along with students closer to their own cultural background, but has little impact on the English language learning program.

What the western English language teaching professional discovers, especially in the Middle East, is that they`re asked to double their workload, instead of halving it, when asked to double up with non-native speakers and team-teach from books like Q: Skills Special Edition: Reading and Writing and Q: Skills Special Edition: Listening and Speaking, because the teacher responsible for the other skill is inadequate to the task. In Saudi Arabia, for example, the `Saudization program` placed the burden on companies to participate in an orange, green, and red selection program, whereby non-Moslem native speakers of English were required to make themselves indispensable as greens, or be red in the face as they experienced employment termination for being inadequate, because Moslem teachers were more favored; irrespective of their ability to teach English language.

What tends to occur is that English language teaching expertise is measured in terms of an individual`s ability in one or more of the four skills, that is, English language teachers are selected on the basis of their being able to team-teach in order to surreptitiously provide training for the non-native speaker they`re teamed with in the English language teaching classroom. The non-native speaker is then congratulated by the local administration for having trained a native speaker; not least in the acceptance of local tradition and culture; for example, that of the Moslem in Islam. Native speakers aren`t any longer asked to provide English language teaching, but rather one or more of the four skills in tandem with a trainee, who for the local administration is the trainer.

Teaching from December 2016 at the local Fish Market College in Khamis Mushait, a town close by the city of Abha University in Saudi Arabia, new teachers were perforce required to submit a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation for the salutary guidance of their fellow professionals, that is, a slideshow seminar on some subject relevant to the practical teaching of English language in order to edify and, perhaps, galvanize into enthusiastic action, those already employed in the activity of teaching English at the college. `Motivation` was the theme selected by this teacher, and a 40 minute movie with sound effects, music, pictures,  and text (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR5hbEzTwpI&t=306s), was duly compiled for the edification of those gathered to glean some benefit from the presentation. Switching it on, those gathered were somewhat bemused by the lack of animation from the compiler, who simply sat with the others while the film ran, and fielded any questions that arose, before the show was peremptorily shut down due to a lack of running time affordable.

With proven expertise in the field of MS PPt Presentation, this teacher was subsequently invited to work from September 2017 at the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where the team-teaching of Q: Skills Special Edition: Listening and Speaking required a teacher to monitor the students` speaking skills through MS PPt presentations based on the requirements of the Speaking component of the Q: Skills Special Edition: Listening and Speaking course book, which required discussions of the theme of each of the eight units before a PPt Presentation on the topic, for example, Unit 5 `Psychology`, which features `Sports In Our Lives`,2 required the students to undertake some `pair work` and `role play` an interview situation using a MS PPt slideshow as the medium for their interacting in front of the class. The aim was for the students, who were there to learn presentation skills, to demonstrate that they could answer questions, should such an eventuality arise, and for `peer evaluation` and collective improvement through the teacher`s insightful constructive criticism.

Each student was required to create a PPt Presentation with some text inserted into the slideshow to keep the audience`s attention, and speak for a few minutes on the subject of the unit in order for the teacher to assess and evaluate the student`s performance in English language speaking; Pronunciation (20%), Grammar (20%), Accuracy (10%), Speed (10%), Vocabulary (20%), and Content (20%). After eight weeks, the first term concluded, and Level 1 was overcome. Continuously assessing the students` performances, this teacher was able to provide the IPA with something approaching an accurate evaluation of their level and ability, which was the task allotted to the ELT professional.

Two students fell below the benchmark standard otherwise set and completed by the rest of the learners. In accordance with the instructions given to the teachers at the IPA, PPt Presentations that referred to cultural and/or religious taboos, that is, sex, religion or politics, were to be ruled out of order. Consequently, students who, respectively, introduced rape as a joke within a PPt Presentation, and prostitution, had to be required to scrap their PPt Presentations and do them anew. The result was a fall in marking terms from 90% to 80% because of constraints imposed upon the teacher by another culture`s taboos, which have nothing to do with the English language teaching process. In other words, ELT teaching in some countries has nothing to do with learning English language, for example, in Moslem nations, where Islam is the dominant religious tradition, the Koran (610-30 C.E.) is cited as the yardstick by which everyone is beaten until they submit.

`Islam` in fact means `accept`, while `Moslem` means `acceptance`, and it`s tacit acceptance of Moslem Islam that the English language teaching professional is beaten with; unless they fully accept and convert to Islam. Consequently, the students` failure is accountable as a success in Islamic terms, because the teacher has understood. In other words, the students have proven themselves men of Islam in breaking their own cultural taboo to get the teacher to take cognizance of the fact that it`s religiously unacceptable, and now the ELT professional is paradoxically perceived as being on their way to converting to Islam: a triumph for the students, institution administration, culture, and religious tradition of the Moslem believer.

Teachers at the IPA were required to submit their mid-term and term examinations for review to a panel of grammar experts, who`d then decide whether or not the questions were in accordance with the requirements of the educational aspirations of students and the employers, companies and government bodies, etc., who`d sent them there to learn English. Of course, with administration there are always some bizarre occurrences, and the IPA wasn`t any exception. A question in the term exam related to this statement from a reading comprehension, `The Sateré-Mawé are a group of people in the Brazilian Amazon jungle, which is in South America.` Question number 20 for the Level 1 students required them to decide from a list of three in the multiple-choice format favored by institutions in countries where little or nothing is expected of the examined:

20) What is the Amazon?

a) rain forest

b) jungle

c) e-bay

The adminstrative judiciary panel of experts suggested that there be a modification so that the choice read b) Amazon jungle . Presumably because e-bay and Amazon are rivals in the online retail trade. Joking apart, administrators aren`t generally in a position to tell the teacher what should be in an exam from the perspective of the students` learning program, which is more or less entirely defined by the set book, and if it isn`t then there`s something wrong with the learning program`s establishing.

Teachers responsible for Reading were asked by the IPA administration to provide alternative single word answers to those given in the term exam text, so that it might be possible in the future for compilers of similar examinations, after the completion of the Saudization program, to make tests based on questions similar to those devised by teachers, because they had alternative answers. This required teachers to sit in front of their desktop computers for hours studying spreadsheets and trying to decide which alternative words could be correctly inserted into the examination paper answer sheet, before inserting four more, so that some future compiler of a term exam could look at what had been compiled by a professional native English speaker and devise questions similar so that the alternative answers could be utilized without further participation in the examination compiling procedure by a native speaker.

The mid-term examination consisted of 40 questions, and 40 marks, which together with 10% for classroom participation, and 10% for homework meant that the mid-term exam counted for 80% of the mid-term final grade, but the administration decided that the exam should conform to their latest standardization program, which meant that the teachers had to rewrite an already given and written mid-term exam to please admin`s desire for a 30 question mid-term exam, with 18 easy, 6 medium, and 6 hard questions denoted on the spreadsheet by 1, 2, and 3, together with a marking system that required fractional allocations in accordance with the assertion that these questions were easy, these medium, and these hard.

As 10 of the questions were vocabulary, allocation of a single mark for each would seem logical, but not to the administrators, who arbitrarily decided that, for an exam already delivered and marked, some of the vocab questions should be weighted easy, some medium in terms of difficulty, and some hard, or near impossible. From the remaining Reading exam comprehension questions, divided into two sets of 10 for two different topics, that is, `Information` and `Differences Between Adults and Children`, from 20 questions 30 marks were to be allocated, after the set number of easy, medium, and hard questions were determined, and a value allocated to them that accorded with the teachers` mission of giving marks amounting to a possible 80%, that is, 30 questions amounting to 40 marks, `If there are sixteen elephants in the garage, how many does Shirley have in her hand?` Of course, after having been made to rewrite the already given mid-term exam, the term exam was easy, medium, or hard.

Except for the decision to use Scantron sheets, which required the teacher to rewrite their already written term exam in order that it fit the Scantron sheet formula, which insisted that vocabulary questions requiring the students to choose from ten options, couldn`t possibly be, because the Scantron sheet only permitted of a possible five multiple-choices for any single question, and explaining to the students that, if the question required a True (T) or False (F) answer, T was `A`, and F was `B` on the Scantron sheet that offered A, B, C, D, or E as possible choice indicators, was about as far as the teacher dared go with a student body likely to contemplate murdering their tormentor.

After the exam, the teachers had to feed the sheets into a `Scantron machine`. Although it responded by giving the number of correct answers, the individual teacher still had to find the correct value for the students` efforts. The division of the questions into easy, medium, and hard meant that the number of correct answers was largely irrelevant. The relevant issue was the value ascribed to the correct answer by the exigencies of the term exam having to comply with the requirement of the administration that there be different values ascribed to easy, medium and hard questions. Then the student`s 30 questions could be evaluated in terms of the 40 marks available which, doubled, then approximated to 80% of the 100% achievable when classroom participation, 10%, and homework, 10%, were added to the equation in amounts correctly evaluated by the maddened.

Some More Camp

 Some More Camp

The UK’s disclosure and barring service (DaBS), allied to police checks, home and away, as the online digital equivalent of collecting finger-print ‘dabs’, is presented as a process of decriminalizing the English language profession. By denying that qualified teachers, hereinafter sometimes referred to by the homonym, ‘Jesus’, are a danger to their charges per se. However, as contracts are drawn up for summer camp, allowing property searches of hired teaching staff’s luggage after, and presumably before, they leave, re-criminalization is de rigeur. Ostensibly to ensure companies keep their industrial secrets.

Moreover, dabs are also Middle Eastern lizards. Although not criminals, they’re shot in the desert for fun by Moslems, practising keeping unwanted dabs off the Arabs’ things. After queenie lizard birth, the allegedly reptilian descendant of the Moravians’ ‘Babylon Brotherhood’,1 controlling the Earth surreptitiously, according to noteworthy egg watcher, and former first team ‘keeper with English soccer’s Hereford United, BBC sports presenter David Icke, in his The Biggest Secret (1999), there was clearly a need for HM’s government’s Foreign Office to have an improved dab collecting system for citizens FOd abroad.

Apart from limiting opportunities to those willing to accept searches of their property and belongings, it’s a handicap to the providing of English language teaching (ELT) to allow the hiring of professionals by those who aren’t a part of any education system. If pandering to paedophiliacs, the criteria for working with children is determined by them, and what they say to ELT providers, who are businesses engaged in trade, ‘rough’, or otherwise, is that they prefer ‘camp’ guards.

There are teachers who’re au fait with the requirements of such a scenario, and those who are teachers. As the educator who isn’t au fait is perforce required to be diplomatic, that is, ‘unmanned’, the kids are in the hands of pedophobia, fear of children’s disapprobation, and/or the similar ephebiphobia, fear of teenagers, as it’s the paedophiles that argue for the love of children, because they’re sexually attracted to them, while those defending them from the lustful molesters merely live in fear of being reproved for being staid, and therefore unsuccessful, because unemployed by the ‘party animal’, who nevertheless still has to accept that parents won’t be happy to receive drug-addled sex junkies upon their return home.

If fear is allowed to determine the nature of the education system, pass the parcel, transferring balloons between the knees, and all that innocuous fun, the educator is already defeated. Prototypical was the rabbi Jesus’ request, symbolic of all teachers, as his name, Jesus (teachers) suggests, ‘Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me.’ (Matt: 19.14) After this teacher’s end, the paedophiles could get to the top of the hill there in Perea, east of the river Jordan, and start making the kids suffer.

It isn’t about Jesus’ sexual preferences, or orientation, it’s about what’s sought from prevent awareness campaigning, which is at best asexual, and at worst neutralized, teachers, and that’s counterproductive, as lifeguards for the ‘pool, and others concerned with safeguarding activities, are reduced to being neuters on alert, which isn’t helped by educational institutions’ insistence on the closing of every lesson with bells, as adults are conditioned to associate children with bell-ending danger alarms.

When children appear, adults react, in accordance with what they learned at school, like ‘Pavlov’s dog’,2 salivating hungrily, upon hearing a bell it’d been conditioned by the Russian researcher to associate with food. Taught they’re the equivalent of poison, adults’ reaction is invariably to recoil from contact with a school outing, as if from a bio-hazard marked with ‘skull and crossbones’ or similar. Though that make it easier for the patrol to keep paedophiles at bay, it isn’t socially normative to view all non-educational interactions with people as being that of toxic waste.

Being neutralized interferes with the additional objective of dealing with bullying for sexual favours, or outright terrorist demands, as the mental and physical crippling, undergone by the properly drained teacher, places the emphasis upon student notification. However, a system of informers, and informed upon, is unhealthy societally, as the East European experience of dealing with invaders shows. During WWII (1939-45), for example, Axis power, Hungary, aligned with fascist Germany for the invasion of communist Russia, was known for ‘murder tourism’,3 while the science of ‘informatics’, that is, informers, was developed by the Hungarians to deal with Russia’s invasion of them, before being logically extended to Russian, and other tourists, including Germans, at home.

Expecting the teacher, as well as the public, to respond to children, as though they’ve been conditioned by fire alarms, as in fact they’ve been, and therefore to confiscate communications’ devices, is an aspect of pedophobia. The fear is that parents won’t feel as if their kids have been protected from what they can access on their ‘phones, if they don’t take them, but this has a similarly negative impact on the tourism industry of the UK’s ‘theme park’, where ‘phoneless kids are at the mercy of informers.

Teacher’s disciple, John, wrote in his apocalyptic vision of the future, Revelation, ‘Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is six hundred threescore and six.’ (Rev: 13. 18) 666 is the UK’s emergency ‘phone number, 999 turned on its head, because of thieves’ tracking of ‘phone users for their local ‘beast’ representative.

Libidic energy, reserved by the employee, for channelling into the preparing and administering of lessons, redistributed in unnatural self-monitoring, encourages dispassionate disinterestedness. However, monitoring of students, with at least an appearance of passionate interest in their progress, activities, and welfare, is what’s required.

The perception, unconscious or otherwise, has been that students, like the Eloi,4 in English science fiction author H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine (1895), responding to ancient, still-functioning, air raid sirens, to go to underground shelters in 802,701 AD, where they’re eaten by subterranean Morlocks, are alarms that people, including teachers, respond to similarly.

Extending what summer camp providers seem to think of as their police powers to the arena of intelligence gathering is familiar to teachers, who’ve worked overseas, where similar restrictions place the teacher in a category of those who’re disabled technologically, sometimes through outright theft of technical equipment and materiel, often while passing through Morlock-like airport controls.

Constituting restraint of trade, by making the individual unemployable, as devoured of their tools, necessary to complete their contractual obligations, teachers are the equivalent of Wells’ Eloi, which was the first word spoken by Jesus upon his crucifixion, and before his resurrection and ascension to heaven, according to the Bible, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?’

The language of Aramaic, then used by the Jews, instead of Hebrew, as a lingua franca of the region of Palestine, translates as, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’ (Mk: 15. 34) Jesus was ‘cheats us’, that is, he cheated his paedophiles of his death. Students, as well as teachers, are therefore justified in wondering why paedophilia’s allowed to devour their devices, as they’re instruments for their protection, while they’re learning with them.

Leaving aside the implication of property theft, so as to dumb down the traveling teaching profession, through the abuse of information gathering, that is, where their device is, gleaned from its ISP address, and the registering of its IMEI code, as in Uzbekistan and elsewhere, employers are now abrogating the right to read employees’ emails, after they arrive, and presumably before, while including it in the contract that the employees agree to be strip searched, before they leave, and presumably whilst at home too.

English language provision isn’t an industrial, or military, secret. Pretending that employers are national, and international, security organizations, is ruining the lives of ELT professionals. If left unregulated, such companies are arrogating the authority of the state to function as non-educational centres that nevertheless require the veneer of employing Jesus’ camouflage.

Especially given that the inordinate care taken by the teacher to pass all of the educational requirements, as well as being admitted a citizen of good standing, in countries other than the UK, and having the requisite prevent awareness and safeguarding certificates, not excluding first aid, as that of a lifeguard’s, is used by summer camp operators to mask the fact that they want educators only as a sop to a jolly.

In social scientist George Orwell’s science fiction novel, 1984 (1949), the antisocial slogans of his Ministry of Truth, the central government organ, are ‘War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength.’5 Prevent awareness and safeguarding presuppose terror. That teachers are tabula rasa, who needs must learn that war, slavery, and ignorance, aren’t logical concomitants of peace, freedom, and strength, isn’t accurate.

The IngSoc (English socialism) of Orwell’s dictatorship, Big Brother, is allied with the continent of Oceania, as Airstrip One (Britain) is at war with the continents of Eurasia and Eastasia by turns. In reality teachers and students aren’t. Threatening qualified staff with surveillance of their communications’ devices is intimidation, and as such certificated guardians are made aware, it’s harassment.

During camp concentrating, teachers are expected to act in a second role as security, after completing anti-terrorist training on the UK government website, which effectively introduces staff to students as agents of terror, whereas the Chinese from Eastasia, for example, and/or Uzbekistanis from Eurasia, officially aren’t; or unofficially either.

Ordering students to deposit their smartphones, given to them by their parents to assure themselves of their children’s safety, in boxes before lessons or activities, and even excursions, resembles theft, and disablement by gangsters, working against the best interests of tourism. In the case of missing devices, it’s reasonable for parents and kids to assume that’s what the security, teachers, and activities’ leaders, were for.

Leaving aside the way that ‘phone devices are used to photograph what’s written on the board, etc., for their parents to comment on inadvisably, and to transmit globally pictures of the teacher, with comments for TikTok, as well as other social media, etc., teachers are genuinely grateful for any form of artificial intelligence (AI) adjunct, relieving their burden of repetition. Having AI confirm there’s an ‘s’ on the verb in the third person singular, Jesus (teachers) can move on. Instead, empowered students are able to call all effort inadequate, as they keep devices in their rooms, which gave all the answers, before tabooed.

If the human brain is the equivalent of a computer’s central processing unit (CPU), then its peripheral memory storage capacity, represented by ancillary and auxiliary devices, that is, ‘phones, tablets, laptops, etc., is technologically normative. From the educator’s perspective, it’s better to incorporate stored individual knowledge into the teaching environment, removing the barrier to effective intercourse.

Students, who want to learn, do. Leaning on the kids to get them to write, on a piece of paper, an unnecessary sentence, as they can ask AI to confirm what’s acceptable English, and the teacher can confirm it too, without the need for a pen, is what paedophilia is. Paedophiles want to separate Jesus, that is, teachers, from the kids, so they can get on with their abusing of them. ‘You won’t understand’ is how paedophiles play, replaced by, ‘You shouldn’t understand’ if you do, and ‘phone-device confiscation, with its concomitant, crippled disability, unable to escape, even from babyhood, into childhood.

The Jesus’ belief is of teaching, while the students’ perception is that they know what’s being taught, as they have banned devices with AI, which fosters the belief that inability exists only in the classroom. As device technology is an aid to teaching, it’s far more sensible to accept it, rather than have the teacher labelled a poor facilitator, as the confiscation of ‘phones largely precludes the accessing of study material, relevant to the interests of individual students, who want to grow to be adults.

The main reason for parents’ sending their kids to camp, where they can practise English, is what they’re exposed to, as teenagers; for example, lyrics in the music that they listen to, on their ‘phones, which raises an issue that’s been around for at least as long as instruments added singers to their repertoire:

‘Blinding signs flap

Flicker, flicker, flicker blam

Pow, pow

Stairway scare

Dan Dare

Who's there?’6

As with many progressive rock ensembles, the Pink Floyd lyrics from the group’s track, ‘Astronomy Domine’, on their first album, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn (1967), are almost incomprehensible; unless the listener knows who Dan Dare is. An English comic book space adventure hero in Eagle for boys, who appeared in the pages thereof from 1950 to 1967, while the ‘Whistle’ (2016) lyrics of the girl group, Blackpink, sometimes have English, interspersed with Korean, and even Thai, as Lalisa Manobal is from Thailand, although the issue remains the same:

‘Make 'em whistle like

A missile bomb, bomb

Every time I show up, blow up uh

Make 'em whistle like

A missile bomb, bomb

Every time I show up, blow up uh’7

Whistling, to attract the attention of girls, by putting two fingers into the mouth, and blowing to emit what amounts to a piercing shriek of chauvinism, is socially understood by most people, as an activity emanating from building sites, affording a vantage point, from which desirable women can be admired, safely by their supposed admirers, while such women, often termed sex-bombs, are invited to a blow on the job, where blow can colloquially be cannabis.

The US’ Beat Generation of 1950s poets, like Alan Ginsberg, ran out of such blow often enough to want to go and get some more, so blow here is also a verb, that is, to blow, meaning begone, as in blow off. The women recognize a coward up high, absenting themselves from their real action. As it’s the role of the educator to teach, it’s better to promote access, rather than foster ignorance, which from what’s audible naturally assumes the K-pop band are advocates of terror bombing:

‘I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix,

angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night,

who poverty and tatters and hollow-eyed and high sat up smoking in the supernatural darkness of cold-water flats floating across the tops of cities contemplating jazz’8

Paedophiles just want to explain that, apart from the disrespecting ‘negro’ reference, ‘fix’, and ‘high’ are also bad words, without reference to context, whereas for a professor of English literature, Ginsberg’s poem, ‘Howl’ (1954-55), is socio-cultural explication, although students need guidance, which is impossible, if they aren’t able to engage in discourse about what they’re knowledgeable about, as the ‘phone-device is in a box at the front, next to the Jesus’ desk, so as not to disturb the equilibrium of the antiquarian:

‘When it’s sin it’s Sade’s

When it’s been in its SARS’9

Protectionism that excludes educators from education is jobs for the boys with the old school tie, for example, needing a reference, where the referee understands they’re being offered an employment opportunity, and a few words of character assassination can secure the post. As such places are available, because of the intellectual capabilities of the qualified, it’s insulting that the criminal can institutionally refer themselves. It’s a system approximating to brain slaving, where the posts offered are dependent on the efforts of the educated for their existence, while the criteria for acceptability remains dependent on the paedophiles.

In the most advantageous position are the activity leaders, bicep jewels, who didn’t sacrifice the culture of body sculpting to stand before the smart bored and educate. Modernity, having made security ‘phone-e’s possible, risks placing its kids at the mercy of bullies’ muscles, which places the onus on the educator to obtain at least a second degree in physical education (PE).

As if it isn’t enough to suggest that an MSc in Applied Linguistics is an insufficient contribution to a role as an English practice facilitator at summer camp, biceps for rambling is likely to be the future of education generally, with AI delivering the actual teaching programs, and muscular humans, with or without intellectual gifts, needed for the greater outdoors, rather than the stuff of boardom.

Tickle It Under There

With the UK raising the retirement age to 66, to be increased from 2026, and Middle Eastern and Asian recruiters enforcing a ‘below’ job rule, that is, under 60s only employable, English language teachers now have the science fiction of ‘Lastday’ to deal with. Apart from what to do about Alice Cooper high, ‘School’s Out’ (1972), ‘for summer’.1

In the novel, Logan’s Run (1967), by William F. Nolan, ostensibly because of population pressure,2 all those above 21 years of age are killed by those who aren’t yet running things. On 9/11, 2001, when airliners, hijacked at Logan airport, crashed into the Twin Towers of New York’s World Trade Center on Lower Manhattan island, Downtown, it was Lastday explained, for a 60s generation that had ingenuously believed ‘All You Need Is Love’ (1967), The Beatles’ song, ‘No one you can save that can't be saved.’3

Nolan’s novel about Logan 3, ‘Sandman’ (op. cit. p.2), co-written with George Clayton Johnson, and set in 2116, presciently warns the 21st century of the doom of slavery; through pushers that addict to lobotomize: so confusing knowledge for the innocent with senility. Increasing the pensionable age every year means death before retirement, with the aged old enough to recognize they’ve been seniled by slavery; since they were teenagers. In Logan’s Run a ‘palm flower’ (op. cit., p.2) crystal, embedded in the right hand, changes color; yellow (age 0–6); blue (age 7–13); red (age 14–20); turning black, Lastday, at 21, as pedophiles, pimps, and slavers, start afresh.

The analogy for teachers is ‘the strap’, a de facto lobotomy treatment in the Scots’ school system, and the ‘ruler’ of the English system, where a child was required to hold out the palm of their hand, and the administering teacher, or appointed punisher, struck a stipulated number of times; leaving a damaged mind and a bruise, becoming yellow, blue, red, and black by turns.

For some, vengeance was the watchword, when ‘corporal’ punishment in the British education system was outlawed by Parliament on July 22nd, 1986. Obtaining a PhD in English from Hull University in 1992, before being asked by the local authority to qualify in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL), with the Certificate awarded on February 14th, 1995, and leave England for Hungary, age 34, would attract the attention of avengers, somehow looking to repeat 1929’s ‘Valentine’s Day massacre’, with Thompson submachine guns.

Six ‘hoods’, and another later, found crawling, died at 2122 North Clark Street; a Lincoln Park garage, on Chicago’s North Side, Illinois, ‘These wounds they will not heal.’4 All assuming that someone date eligible would have been teaching in the British system before ‘86, US’ band Linkin Park’s ‘Crawling’ (2000), about the last murdered, won’t justify the teacher’s bleeding from a knife wound in the chest, delivered on the third floor walkway, on the way to his door.

In Logan’s Run those who refuse to turn up for the ‘Sleepshop’ (op. cit., p.5) administered pleasure-inducing toxic gas, that is, euthanasia, on Lastday, are labeled ‘runners’, hunted by ‘Sandmen’ (op. cit., p.31). Logan, one of a group of such, becomes a runner too.

For the EFL teacher the analogy is that of US’ heavy metal group Metallica’s song, ‘Enter Sandman’ (1991). The nightmare of those approaching their last stay, and with no preference for EU than Asia, can’t escape the ageism of slavery, while their seniled youthful replacements, ordered about willy-nilly by drainers, lack practical knowledge enough to ‘run’:

‘It's just the beasts under your bed,
In your closet, in your head.’5

Eurasia becomes much more attractive, once the Mid-Easterners have closed their doors, although many of the former Eastern bloc countries that had perforce adopted the Communism of their Russian ‘liberators’ from German occupation, subsequent to WWII (1939-45), became members of the European Union (EU), after the Soviet withdrawal from ‘89, which then presented a new bloc from March 26th, 1995, in the shape of the ‘Schengen zone’, permitting only 90 days stay for English teachers in any 180 day period, before they had to ‘run’.

That Jesus was a teacher, who was killed, because the perfume of a woman was ‘too expensive’ (Mk: 14. 3) for him, according to his disciple, Judas, is pertinent, ‘Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me.’ (Matt: 19. 14) He was a kindergarten rabbi who, espousing the theory that unfaithful women shouldn’t be stoned to death (John: 8. 7), was publicly executed by the civil authority for revealing a nature sexual, rather than that of a eunuch, which was upsetting for local pimps and pedophiles. In the same way that knowledge upsets slavers’ preference for senility and innocence. Explaining antipathy towards rejuvenation and longevity; on the part of those who want things to run.

For those subject to DBS police checks and mandatory ‘safeguarding’ courses, before their job application’s considerable, it’s familiar territory. If teachers won’t accept that they’re ‘beasts’ with children, the system of vetting is the drain for the brain it’s condemning as animal cunning. It believes it’s an educator, because intelligence must be educated. While slavery doesn’t distinguish between intelligence and spy rings, teachers are slaved intelligences, as free intelligents are slavery’s enemy.

Feeling like a prisoner of war (POW) in a concentration camp is the least of a teacher’s concerns. In folklore, ‘sandmen’ traditionally bring sleep, as invoked by Vaughn Monroe in the 1954 song, ‘Mr. Sandman, bring us, please, please, please, bring us a dream.’6 The ‘American Dream’, shattered by 9/11, was replaced by ‘political correctness’, where free speech became of secondary concern to those who wanted servility and are now deferred to.

Teaching by train from Budapest to Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, in the spring of 2025, the feeling was that of a rushing jew. Waiting, hunched up by the smartphone each Saturday for the ‘two-step verification’ WhatsApp message that would tell me where; the next step was to take a screen snapshot with the ‘phone’s camera of the location on Google Maps, before purchasing a MÁV, Hungarian railways, Eurocity (EC) train, or Flixbus, ticket, or a combination of these and others, so to depart Budapest on Sunday morning from points various. Keleti pályaudvar (Eastern railway station; district VIII of XXIII), or Népliget buszállomás (‘People’s Park’, bus station; X), and elsewhere, usually to arrive in Bratislava, railway or bus station, capital of Slovakia, where further ŽSSK Slovak trains/buses would be required to reach the sticks.

Having left and arrived, with but a smattering of Hungarian, for example, itt (here), ott (there) hol (where), közel (near), bal (left), jobb (right), tér (square), etc., and time in the compartment of the railway carriage, eating Hungarian bread (kenyér) and salami (felvágott), brought from the home fridge, to reflect on the crucial importance of what the teacher carried for Monday’s students, hoping to travel in English later on; Susan Thomas’ book, Picture Prompts Prepositions and Directions (1997),7 with the pictures prompting answers to the questions, ‘What’s wrong?’ (p.35) A: ‘Plant’s under the table.’ (#1, p.34) The next step was to scout out the accommodation, by reference to Google Maps on the smartphone; follow the Machiavellian instructions as to how to open the key box with the code sent by SMS to the ‘phone, and bag the bed. Before the other two teachers arrived to start an argument over who got to sleep on the sofa, ‘What’s wrong?’ B: ‘Robert’s under the table.’ Or in the bath.

Invariably it was one key between three: to concentrate the minds of the educators. It being impossible to leave the prison without a key; or a turnkey. Without locks on the inner doors, it was also essential to leave carrying all valuable equipment, and indeed valuables of any sort, to the local school where ‘English week’ was scheduled to demonstrate the efficaciousness of pictures linking prepositions and directions, ‘What’s Where?’ (p.33); ‘Up there!’, or ‘Under the chair!’, and ‘In his underwear!’

The three hour train ride to Bratislava pales into insignificance, compared with the five hours to Pardubice in the Czech Republic. Having arrived and, following Google Maps, directed off in the opposite direction, Thomas’ ‘One Way System (p.23) was carefully perused, ‘Where is the theater?’ (p.22) Searching for the old East Bohemian city building, Městské divadlo (Municipal Theater), ‘near’ (# 5, p. 36.) to where the hypothetically three-in-a-bed apartment was locatable, directions ‘left, right, straight, next to, before, between, opposite’ (p.14) etc., were subsequently afforded, at Zelené Předměstí (Green Suburbs) Uni Hobby store, to the box, which hadn’t the key. Whatever that’s in Slovakian.

Unperturbed, though being beaten by the sticks, sitting ‘on the wall’ (#32, p.39), Humpty-ish, studying Thomas’ ‘Old Town’ (p.19) street guide to find a hand pump in a square ‘there’, and thereby inspired to get ‘hands to the pump’ there on Náměstí Republiky. Wiping dry on a ‘that’s not clean’ hankie, while browsing how to find ℹ in ‘New Town’ (p.21), should information be needed, the theater façade was much in evidence, linguistically being ‘across there’, according to the Grammarians’ app.

Having experience enough of this sort of sappy thing already, with the ‘phone battery flat, ‘What’s Wrong?’ (p.35) A: ‘The ‘phone recharger needs a usb port and those at the airport are clogged with cigarette butts.’ Beneath the flat ‘phone was uncovered the secretly screwed purpose of all things. Bodgering a denizen to annoyance for his ‘phone, Jeeg and Vim would be arriving soon from the wine bar, while the boggled’s life was endangered as a ‘phonie in need of a Bud’.

Each night was spent on a mattress, not fancying a Jeeg sandwich, studying the ‘toon apartment block of ‘Who lives where?’ (p.45), for the ‘above’, ‘below’, ‘first’, ‘second’, and ‘ground floor’ (p.44) grammar; the living room for the variegated #1-18 Spots in ‘Spot the Dog’ (pp. 40-41), who were inveterately ‘on’ (#18, p.39) something or other, like Jeeg, and the similar ‘to cut out’ furniture to paste and fill the vocabulary emptiness in ‘Arranging a Room’ 1 and 2 (pp.37-38), while Jeeg, on the king size bed, gnomically suited, orange in a room, with his indecipherable utterances, watched the flat black flat black HD television screen hung opposed.

It required a fair long walk back to the local ŽSSK headquarters to get the number 84 bus to the juniors’ school in Třebor, as Vim, perhaps now ‘on’ the same thing as Jeeg, on first day steered the group of three past the mid-way to our destination stop, where the 84 could have been had a mile or so earlier.

Susan’s photocopiable book illustrations, ‘In the Fridge’ (p.49), ‘In the Wardrobe’ (p.51), and ‘In the Cupboard’ (p.53), would also soon be tested to the last nouns of their strength, ‘What’s in the fridge?’ A: ‘Bread and salami.’ Perusing ‘At the Hotel’ (p.27) and ‘At the Superstore’ (p.29) at the 84 bus stop, nearer to the hlavní nádraží, ‘main railway station’, than seemed humane; ‘How much?’ underscoring the importance of correct change in Czech coinage for the driver, koruna (crown) denominations had been brought from a previous jaunt to the Republic ten years previously, and for the same employer, at a school in South Bohemia’s Tábor.

With chuckling delirium, as without them there’d be no visit, the coins were relinquished, uncomprehendingly and severally, each day of the week; until all local transportation costs were dutifully paid, ‘What’s where?’ A: ‘The pig’s in the tree.’ (#7, p.32) Though it seemed unlikely, from what had already transpired, that the cash would be reimbursed, suit pockets were duly stuffed with the funfair passes; numbered and dated.

The school was Zakladná a mateřská, Elementary and kindergarten, which in Slovakian was Zakladná s materskou, where cartoons and songs were de rigeur, including The Beatles’, and a favorite of many was ‘Round and Round the Garden’, with lyrics to dully inculcate young minds:

‘Round and round the garden
Like a teddy bear
One step, two step
Tickle you under there!’8

The image of concerned and worried parents is always at the forefront of conscience, when teaching, as is the knowledge that slavers, pimps, and pedophiles want to be rid of those who become older and wiser. ‘Round and Round the Garden’ is a mnemonic for British commandos, ‘To kill you under there!’ ‘One step’ is accompanied by a movement of the hand up the arm, followed by ‘two step’ and a chucking of the chin; in place of the dagger. Also, and of some interest to England’s Princess Diana (d. 1997), campaigner against, used in land mine detection. One step, two step … boom!

The two-step verification system, accompanying the usage of smartphone applications for payments, electronic e-mail accounts, and sundry other passwordings, is similarly designed to ‘distance kill’ a life; locked down with his logout, ‘What’s where?’ (p.33) B: ‘The pig’s behind the tree.’ (#2, p.32) Job protection, masquerading as security generally, apes bank account security, as anyone used to consistently being denied access to their Cambridge Assistant Examiner portal, on the grounds that their password won’t do, knows.

After a hopeful ‘Prague Spring’,9 returning to Budapest each Friday evening, bussed/drained, leaving the Slovak/Czech school around lunchtime, teaching summer camp in England, with the help of Thomas’ ‘At the Campsite’ (p.53), ‘over’ bridge, hill, and road, did wicked service, ‘Carlos, where’s the swimming pool, please?’ (p.24) ‘In the rain, under the lightning and the thunder, near ‘a red wheelbarrow’, ‘beside the white chickens’.’

In a 3 month application process, according to experience, the DBS police check has to be supplemented by the receipt of a similar certificate from the police of every foreign country the teacher has taught in for the previous half decade or so. In a country, like Dorset, where people are expected to have lifetime occupations, with a single company or institution, that looks suspect to begin with. Hungary’s ‘good conduct certificate’ has a 3 month expiry date; presumptively in line with the anticipated length of the job application process.

Acceptance, in good time, presupposed booking a cheap flight through Wizz or Ryan, etc., with the problems attendant ‘upon’10 having but a single small free bag into which everything went. A tablet is a best bet, and aspirins are useful on long air hauls, as they prevent thrombosis, from arterial blood vessels clogging up, while experiencing cramp in ‘economy class’ seating. However, going on a 12/7 flight from Budapest Liszt Ferenc airport at Ferihegy to Leeds Bradford via Nicolaus Copernicus, Wrocław Airport, Poland, named for the 15th century astronomer, who showed planets orbited the sun,11 not the Earth, and with an eleven hour stopover, isn’t.

Bedraggled, on an A2 bus to Bradford, then on to Halifax, and another to Woodfish school, near Elland Road bridge, West Yorkshire, presumably rented by the Irish organizers, Balsa Associated Languages Summer Academicians (BALSA), two cloudy weeks were spent amongst Japanese and Greek teenagers, refreshing their A2-B1 (CEFR) English language use from ESL Brains, online downloadable lesson plans, for example; ‘Dream On!’ (B1),12 sleep vocab, etc. While taking  ‘rainy day dream away’ trips to Liverpool and Manchester, and engaging in project work showing signs of dementia praecox; as favored by slavery and fatherliness.

Projecting a trip to the Tate gallery, L’pool, and/or the Manchester ship canal, after cutting a sizable piece from a roll of paper thoughtfully provided, along with colored crayons, was marred only by climbing out of a window, after the door failed to respond to the unlock code. Despite the tracksuit top, blazoned with the legend, SECURITY, the second step of the verification process had proven near fatal. Resulting in a fall into semi-unconsciousness, and later nightmarish dreams of Logon 4 being ‘taken down’, because of Logout 6’s refusing Login 7, and a bruised foot. Recalling a bout of leg gout, after a youth similar to poet Omar Khayyám of Iran’s (1048-1131) Rubáiyát (Quatrains), ‘A loaf of bread, a jug of wine, and you.’13

A 27/7 return journey via Napoli, on the west coast, Gulf of Naples, capital of southern Italy’s Campania region, the boot’s shin, meant leaving the airport there at 10.30pm, because (‘ware travelers) it closes. A province is Pompeii, where the now extinct volcano, Mt. Vesuvius, buried a pedestrian community in molten lava and grey ash in 79 C.E. In Pomigliano d’Arco municipality, November 2024, during a 30 day run of 180 permitted in the Schengen zone, rising rent free from a cupboard-with-a-bed each day; rates, utilities and internet, to be paid from a ‘zero hours contract’ with Bonedice School. The vibrant cigs, at Carlo Sartori Science and Human Sciences (Scientifico e delle Scienze Umane) secondary school, had shown signs of being buried in some more ash, coached as they’d beans, though preferred to Cambridge by some, in Trinity’s Secure English Language Test (SELT) exams, approved by GOV for permanent/temporary UK stay applicants.

Awaiting, on a bench outside, a morning flight at 11.00am, it eventually left Ugo Niutta, the airport being named for a 1916 air ace in WWI (1914-18), niutta meaning ‘nothing’, around 1.00pm in sardonic sunshine. Concerned that the strength of the batteries would give out in the  MP3 player, programed to cycle eternally between Christina Aguilera’s ‘Dirrty’ (2002), featuring rapper Redman, and ‘Men In Black’ (1997), featuring Will Smith, a bit crapper, the BKV operated Ikarus bus 100E service from Budapest’s airport, Liszt Ferenc, named for the 19th century Hungarian composer, Sonata in B Minor, etc., and deviser of the ‘symphonic poem’, to Kálvin tér, named for Susan Calvin, roboticist in SF writer, Isaac Asimov’s I, Robot (1950), loomed brightly in the consciousness of the traveler. With but a #49 tram to home thereafter, wings having flown close to the sun, and the sounds of The Mission’s ‘Tower of Strength’ (1988) still booming in the eardrums as, stairs ascended, the door key turning, there’d … beans … hum ... light at the end of the funnel.

First Person Past Simple and You

First Person Past Simple and You

The art of writing is fraught, as critics, holding the writer responsible, are almost entirely negative, blaming for substance, and content, if it mars their contentment. Viewers, similarly, are critical to the point of the speakers of the words in a movie being accursed; for what they say.

Fig. 1 'Pig glut.'

Director of The Exorcist (1973), from William Peter Blatty's screenplay of his 1971 novel (see fig. 1), David Friedkin, wrote and directed Cruising (1980), based on Gerald Walker’s 1970 novel about the slaying of gay men, but inspired by real-life ‘bag murders’ of six homosexuals (1975-7), centering upon Greenwich Village, New York city, unprovenly associated with 1979's convicted murderer, Paul, 'Johnny Johnson', Bateson. Appearing as a radiologic technologist in The Exorcist, renowned for its bloodiness, after Friedkin watched him perform a genuine cerebral angiography at NYU Medical Center, as a preliminary to surgical invasion, Bateson is an instance of persona-behavior identification syndrome, where the actor’s persona, as a character, developed as an infectiousness affecting his behavior.
In The Exorcist, 13 years Linda Blair, as demoniacally possessed Regan MacNeil, has her carotid artery punctured, as a part of the medical procedure to examine her brain, while Bateson reassures her, as blood spurts up into the air, before staining her surgical gown. Although signs of persona-behavior suppression are difficult to discern, Blair's subsequent career was determined, for example, in Hell Night (1981) her character, Marti Gaines, survives a mass murder. The killer(s) of NY's gay men, irrespective of whether Bateson was the murderer, dismembered the bodies, and as it was still their bag, threw them in bags into the Hudson river at the Villagers' western border.
Modern critics are ‘carping criticism’; unwarranted and/or malicious. In the early days of Hollywood, Los Angeles, west coast California state, center of the US' mass media Empire, Louella Parsons, screenwriter, for example, with The Magic Wand (1912), had a ‘sweetness and light’ style, which made her an unrivalled ‘gossip columnist’, celebrative of others' idiosyncrasies, until former actress, famous for her portrayal of 'society women' (see fig. 2), Hedda Hopper, for example, in the silent film, Virtuous Wives (1918), became a proponent of the ‘blacklist’ for stars deemed by herself and others, ‘Un-American’, at The Los Angeles Times from 1937, with a style, defined by some as ‘crass’, making it difficult to separate art from life.

Fig. 2 Virtuous Wives (1918)

There resulted a schizophrenic ‘split’, between public face and private person, where criticism became a device to make the public persona identical with the private person’s behavior; ensuring stars were flattened by ‘TV critics’. Until they became blamable, one-dimensional characters, indistinguishable from what was written for, or about them. A direct consequence of Hopper's agenda, stars were 'outed' on the basis of her opinion, as homosexuals or communists, for example, until they were out of Hollywood; or, forced to adopt false persona-behavior patterns, commensurate with being alienated by spies, who wanted them to live blind to what they could have had and been.
While English verb tenses with pronouns can be difficult, semantically, for learners, especially second language acquirers, to comprehend, a large part of the curse, associated with the narrative relating of stories, is that eyes are associated with the ego, that is, the ‘I’ of the first person singular, while ‘the objective correlative’,1 to use a literary analytical term from American poet T. S. Eliot's essay, ‘Hamlet and His Problems’ (1919), is the second person singular, which bears the weight of being contextually understandable to English language learners, as the plural is also ‘you’, which so far as the Prince of Denmark (PoD) is concerned in the drama, Hamlet (1599-1601), written by the English playwright, William Shakespeare, is about how the multiple egos of the audience (eyes) use the accusative, declined; us, me, him, whom, and them, in its condemnation of a fratricidal coward: ‘Thus conscience does make cowards of us all, and thus the native hue of resolution is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought, and enterprises of great pitch and moment with this regard their currents turn awry and lose the name of action.'2

Fig. 3 Butchered by the usual shower

Although the actor, evincing the anguish and madness of Hamlet on stage, or screen, for example, Ethan Hawke in Hamlet 2000 (2000), isn't guilty of fratricide, he's tainted by association. Anthony Perkins is always Norman Bates at the motel, where he kills Janet Leigh, in her role as Marion Crane (see fig. 3), in the Psycho (1960) shower scene, whereas it’s you, the audience, that’s responsible, as in ancient Greek dramatist, Sophocles, Oedipus Rex (c. 429 B.C.). Oedipus, who’s killed his father, and married his mother, is lame, and has blinded himself, signifying the ego's occlusion, as Jesus' was, because it’s what you (pl.) vicariously wanted. Although the actor on stage, or screen, isn’t actually lame or blind, it's the accusative amongst the audience's curse upon him. While the audience have only bought a ticket, the performer's defence is contractual, which can’t be axe murderer Patrick Bateman’s excuse in the movie, American Psycho (2000), based on Brett Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel, although the actor in the role, Christian Bale, stands accusingly by the box office.
The fate of Manhattan ‘bag murderer’, Bateson, is an indication that persona-behavior identification is a real issue for performers cursed by the accusative, as accusers progressively cripple and blind. As Shakespeare's Lady Macbeth, is a character, 'Out damned spot!' (V, i, l. 31) she isn't a person who can rid herself of the stain of murder, which is a written behavior pattern, rather than that the actress is accursed, whereas that’s how she’s perceived by the paying audience; receiving payment as a murderess: 'Here's the smell of the blood still. All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand.'3
As all Shakespeare’s characters were perforce acted by men, as women weren’t permitted to act, during the reign of queen Elizabeth I, persona-behavior psychopathology was established as an institution within English drama, which served as an accusative curse upon women, as the audience unconsciously agree that acting is how people actually are. If God’s to be appealed to, as a matter of curse, it's according to the crucifixion of Jesus ‘Christ’, ‘the chosen’, ‘This is my son in whom I am well pleased.’ (Matt: 3. 17) The accusative amongst the audience, that is, you (collectively) erred, in having Jesus taken to Calvary hill, outside Jerusalem, during the occupation of Jewish Palestine by the Romans, in the name of the Emperor Tiberius (14-37 C.E.), where, if only in front of Tib's eyes by proxy, Jesus, nailed to a cross of wood, died there.

Fig. 4 The lamb of God

Jesus' Resurrection and Ascension to heaven broke the accusative audience’s curse, who wanted torture and extinction, whereas the actor wasn’t contractually obligated. Useful for English language learners, unsure of the differences, between second person singular, and second person plural, to comprehend. Jesus' disciple, Judas, gave Jesus to the Jewish religious police, the Pharisees, who tried and executed him through Roman judge, Pontius Pilate, as Judas had found Jesus with a woman, that is, a singular second person, ‘Leave her alone.’ (Mk: 14. 6) Jesus, second person singular, became plural in the minds of the accusative, acting according to developmental psychologist, Carl Jung (1875-1961), as a collective, projecting their shadow, while the individual, Jesus, appealed to the second person plural, ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ (Mk: 12. 31) Killed in the accusative, that is, by them, Jesus was their shadow.
As Dror Ben Ami observed, ‘… the blood sacrifice of Jesus was a more effective way to remove sins [than animals] ...'4 Ami errs in suggesting human sacrifice is good. For Jung, the personal shadow of the individual, requires integration to render it harmless, that is, the foundless perception of another person as inferior is, rather, an indication of the perceiver's inferiority. As the shadow is in large part instinct, Jesus was killed by a collective, operating at the level of animal consciousness, who believed that to have her as their slave, Jesus must be cut away from the woman, emphasized by Judas' kissing Jesus full on the mouth, in sterilizing treachery. From the point of view of the shadow projected, that is, the accusative, more animals like Jesus are needed. That such sacrifice removes sin is Ami's error. The killing of Jesus was the collective sin, which curse Jesus' Resurrection broke. He was escaping slavery. Elsewise, human sacrifice is a simpler evil.

Fig. 5 ‘Yaroo!’

In the tetragrammaton, YHWH, comprised of Hebrew language vowels, Jehovah's pronounced, 'You.' The second person plural of the Old Testament, as the collective, deciding to kill the second person singular, is God, that is, YHWH (YOU), but Jesus' Resurrection signifies he isn't you (pl.) from the perspective of Christians. A collective that believed it was YHWH (God) erred, and the Jewish 'dissenter', Jesus, was made to fit the worship form category of animal sacrifice.
In Shakespeare's English, second person singular, that is, thou, thee, thy, and thine, etc., is distinct from second person plural, as ewes (youse) die, that is, in war the flocks of the congregations of the Christian churches are the sheep of animal sacrifice, directed by their dogs of war, collared or unfrocked, while the shepherds are made to see the efficacy in that, as a solution to the problem of the Old Testament collective, who in killing Jesus, that is, as the second person singular, didn't understand they were killing God, as the second person plural. In terms of Christian consciousness, they're ewe (pl.) led astray, rather than thou; individually distinct. God's acknowledgment of 'the lamb' (see fig. 4), Jesus, is that of consubstantiality, which is a unity of second person singular, and second person plural, that is, togetherness, which is the third person singular, 'one,' used as a 'friendship determiner' to confer consubstantiality; ostensibly upon those Christians who followed Jesus' teaching thereafter, 'You believe that there is one God. Good!' (James: 2. 19)
It's a speech form used in English fee-paying public schools, for example, at Harrow and Eton, sixth formers (lower and upper), during the period set for taking 'A' (Advanced) level exams, in contradistinction to 'O' (Ordinary) level, which students are prepared for from primary school level, traditionally call themselves 'gods', while the Os are 'fags', that is, they have to do things for them, like a Microsoft OS for PCs, which means they're short of breath and anxious,5 as if suffering from severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), or fear of AIDS.
As a god one has breathless fags, like children's writer Charles Hamilton's fictional creature, Billy Bunter of Greyfriars (see fig. 5), written in the nom de plume, Frank Richards, 1908-65, who weren't one, whereas one had friends, amongst the other gods, perhaps, who were, 'Would you?' Pagan slavery isn't characterized by belief in God as One, that is, the third person singular, as you isn’t, while such usage does determine Christian relationships, 'For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.' (Tim: 2. 5)
In Christianity, father, son, and Holy Spirit, are consubstantial; One. While human sacrifice is forbidden, as God, as the third, and second person, singular and plural, lives as One. In the book of Numbers, a man, caught collecting firewood on Saturday, set aside as the Jews' day of rest, was killed by God, ‘Give the man the death penalty. Yes, kill him, the whole community hurling stones at him outside the camp.’ (Num: 15. 35) As the second person singular, the man is killed by the first person singular, that is, God as YHWH (you), after the application of the accusative, that is, him, not me, as applied by the accusers, us, who in denying the man's second person singular consubstantiality with God, as understood by the Christians, sacrificed the firewood collector, as Jesus was similarly killed for teaching on Saturday.
It isn't a paradox, as Jesus' teaching supersedes the Old Testament of Judaism for Christians. God isn't the same curmudgeon, who wants to live a dictatorial existence, as Jesus' execution transformed God's first person singularity, as YHWH (you) into acceptance of second person plurality. Whereas people had been characters, that is, non persons, like Lady Macbeth, who couldn't rid herself of the stain of murder, the possibility of God's acceptance of 3-D people, as consubstantial, held the promise not only of Jesus' salvation, but also those who were persona-behavior cursed, like murderer Paul Bateson, infected by his role in The Exorcist; a movie about demoniacal possession.
For Christian English teachers, required to work on Sunday, which is their day of rest, it's relevant, as religious extremists might believe they're justified in killing one accusingly. Amongst Moslems of the nations of Islam, it's Friday, where Sharia law, applied to stone (see fig. 6) teenage girls, Hasna, 17, and Madiha, 16, in the city of Deir Ezzor,6 eastern Syria, for being with men, demands recognition of the illegal legitimacy that Moslems, Jews, Christians, Satanists, and soccer hooligans, etc., claim for killing each other over sacred cows.

AFig. 6 Woman being punished; forgetting: stoned

The simple past tense of the verb, 'to be', as applied to both singular and plural second person, indicates significant degeneration in importance accorded to you, since Shakespeare. Simple extinguishment, as if animal(s), by the past simple form with the second person, is symptomatic of human sacrifice, that is, were; be past simply. From the slavers' point of view, Jesus was killed by his accusatives as a too helpful animal. While Christians identify themselves as a plurality, that is, One with God, the abandonment of thou, thee, thy, and thine, as second person singular, in favor of the universal you, for second person plural also, invokes the simply past tense, was/were, which is death sentencing in accusative paganism, for example, 'You were teaching on Sunday?’ The significance accorded to the second person singular needs universality, ‘One was.’ Without consubstantiality with God, as the second person plural, and the third person singular, Jesus is dead; simply past. That God is One is a means to communicate the fact that one isn’t permitted to kill the teacher.

Fig. 7 Laurence Olivier; Henry V (1944)

The ego can't comment on the demise of the ego, which is for ‘other’ eyes, individual or collective, to remark upon. However, as it’s always you that dies, that's the objective of the sacrificer. You, not I, is the first person singular principle of human sacrifice towards the simple second person singular, who’s an enslaved fag, for example, understood by the sacrificer to be an animal, before it's killed, which is the reason they call Christians sheep, given the more creatively rewarding ways of caring for oneself, rather than being a slave of husbandry. While priests wear sheep dog collars, responsible for shepherding flocks to slaughterhouse war zones, the fags are finally, as in Shakespeare's drama of the English king's battle at Agincourt (1415), northern France (see fig. 7), Henry V (c. 1599), breathlessly, smoked in the line of fire: 'Once more unto the breech, dear friends, once more; or close the wall up with our English dead.'7 The 'fag gods' (faggots) junior roast, as logs in front of fires, at public boarding school, inside private rooms, institutionalize, through panic attacks, the weakening of the human system, for enslavement in fears of the AIDS gods' of homosexuality's SARS related virus.
If God, as one, is third person singular, and plural, and you, second person singular, and plural, as a Christian in acceptance of the spirit of Jesus' teaching, like Valentine observes, preacher in sci-fi novelist Robert Heinlein's (1907-88) Stranger In A Strange Land (1961), '... when a cat stalks a sparrow both of them are God, carrying out God's thoughts.'8 While the human sacrificer doesn't mind it's you, as his god wants your blood, for both teachers and students, life's spent in the pursuit of teaching others and learning; like Jesus'.

Fig.

Explaining English Gobbledygook to In Indonesian

Being asked recently to do some ‘black work’ online, that is, for cash, to maintain body and soul, for 100 GBP a month, by a ‘colleague’, asking if the flat couldn’t be left in a will? It wasn’t only illuminating to look at alternatives to salaried economics. The issue is time consumption. Justifying salary paid, on the basis of time consumed, and the time consumed by students, in completing the tasks set for them to do, is the usual basis of a value for money (VFM) salary economic for teachers. However, quantity, rather than quality, is generally determined as insufficiency, as it isn’t of a personal dimension, so immeasurably inadequate from the perspective of both employers and students, who’re then in the position of enslavers.

In managerial terms, managers manage. Whereas those who’re concerned with personal approaches towards students expect to be vindicated when the teacher is too impersonal, that’s generally a sign of professionalism in English language teaching, rather than toadying, which is demonstrating being a slave to a slaver to safeguard slavery. The trend in ‘live’ on demand public appearances, with ‘selfie’ photographs of applicants, self-taken with a camera lens, mounted on a personal ‘phone that requires someone else to ‘take charge’ of their ‘personal space’, or more elaborately set up ‘phone links to websites, like WhatsApp, etc., using a QR code scanner, so the ‘phone wielder can check their hair on the ‘phone, while standing in front of the laptop camera, before setting the ‘phone down, and taking a photo using an automatic time-delay mechanism, is a rather queer adjunct to basic serfdom.

Skype, and Zoom, along with WhatsApp interviews, etc., are aimed at furthering presenters, rather than teachers, and presentation rather than content, which might be okay, if all employment was that of a receptionist, but it isn’t. During the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) epidemic, people were subjected to ‘phone terror, with lives dependent on the whim of sim card operators, for example, Vodafone, and T-Mobile, etc., whose websites mightn’t be ‘up’ for a debit card transaction, so a ‘take charge’ by someone else in a QR, ‘queer code’ arrangement, was made perforce acceptable to the fiercely independent; or else a top up by ATM in the mid-winter could signal lung failure, if a phone stand hadn’t been purchased by the pensioner, who also needed a degree in computer science to set the time delay mechanism on their ‘smartphone’ camera, before rushing in front of the lens to get a mugshot to accord with the demands of the healthcare provider wanting a verified ID to make out a prescription for insulin, for example. That a presenter is perceived as the best teacher, because they’re a user, not only unhealthily equates the applicant for the insulin with the fascist perspective that the fittest survive, but suggests that the professional teacher is unfit, as they aren’t an adequate tab user.

Although the objective of those advocating personal input is meant to demonstrate sociability and societal care and cohesion, in fact it’s based on vindication, that is, slavers are vindicated by those who feel cared for, whereas old age pensioner didn’t feel vindication in their need to have a ‘phone and a laptop to take a ‘selfie’, as they wanted an appointment at the local health center, and neither do the teachers feel vindicated by the QR (queer) code. Requiring people to take mugshots of themselves is rather vindictive of muggers, who want to mug their victims, rather than an indication of righteous action. Identifying ‘people at risk’, through requiring them to show IDs, is a sign of justified thieving, and teachers overseas aren’t aware that they’re similarly unprotected.

Giving up on getting PayPal to comply with their client’s need to withdraw money for the ‘phone, after successfully completing the request for ticking the number of motorcycles in the Captcha ‘game’, to see who can access their own account, after the password has been given, which PayPal have required to be changed at least a hundred times to ‘safeguard identity’, that puts a more than usual strain on failing memory, and they’re now going to send a verification code by SMS to the ‘phone that needs to be topped up, so that the client can input that too, as long as they’ve fulfilled the requirement of buying a ‘phone to go with their personal computer (laptop, tablet, etc.), but there’s then a request from the ‘bank’ to tick the number of sailing boats in the Captcha, and the ‘phone can’t receive the SMS because it hasn’t any credit, is what the vindictive do with people, who won’t die, and give up their homes and possessions to the ‘dealer’.

Indonesian students, at a university, were asked to upload work to be reviewed, and graded on Padlet; a cloud-based software-as-a-service company, hosted from the company’s headquarters in the city of San-Francisco, state of California, United States of America, and from the city-state island of Singapore, maritime Southeast Asia. A real-time collaborative web platform, Padlet users upload, organize, and share content through virtual bulletin boards, called ‘padlets’. Given a rubric to understand, along with the teachers, who were asked to assess, and mark the tasks uploaded by the students, according to the requirements, it consumed a lot of time, especially as the rubric might as well have been in Chinese for the native English speakers, and some of them were.

Masquerading as education, it was in fact time-wasting to slave. The Indonesian students paid for their time to be wasted, and the university paid the teachers to waste their time. As the students paid, the objective was to waste as much time as possible for as long as possible, while making it appear as if education was being given to satisfy parents, for example; who may’ve simply been rich enough to force their children to work there, rather than educate a rival future generation, who mightn’t want to be slaved, and perhaps mightn’t even have wanted to be slavers. That the teachers were ridden like animals by line managers with whips is merely an aspect of slavery’s vindictiveness, while the ostensibly worked for qualification is the vindication of the slaver exercising their personal animosity against the intelligent, who’d prefer to be able to communicate what’s within their understanding, as they aren’t, generally speaking, cryptography literate.

There were four task components, according to the rubric given to the students, as below, who if they could puzzle would be able to glean what was required in order to pass, which may’ve been of some moment to them, but the impenetrable disguise adopted by the course setters made it easier to simply do as much as possible and hope for a hit, for example, all Tasks marked with an asterisk * had to be completed to get a pass mark, 10 or above. While the above 10 category doesn’t seem immediately relevant, there are also 13 compulsory Tasks, with the stipulation that at least 9 out of 12, because it was confusingly amended to 12, rather than the 13 according to the rubric printed as a hand out, as well as all * Tasks, must be completed for a pass mark, that is, 10, and there are 6 additional Tasks, of which 3 must be completed, as well as all * Tasks, and all now 12 compulsory tasks, for a pass mark between 13 and 20, which is the highest mark attainable. Apart from that, there are an apparently unlimited number of self-study Tasks, which when completed, together with all of the * Tasks and all of the 12 compulsory Tasks, and at least 4 of the additional Tasks, if the week 12 summary of a paragraph on Technical Fascism, with uploaded paragraph and notes, are completed, a score of 17 or above is attainable:

  • Tasks [4]
  • All * Tasks Must be completed for your padlet to be awarded a Pass mark (10 or above)
  • Compulsory Tasks (13)
  • A minimum of 9/12 (as well as all * Tasks) MUST be completed for a Pass mark (10 or above)
  • Additional Tasks [6]
  • At least three pf the Additional Tasks (as well as all * Tasks and all Compulsory Tasks) MUST be completed for a score of 13/20 or above
  • Self-Study [?]
  • Some extra Self-Study Tasks (as well as all * Tasks, all Compulsory Tasks, and at least 4 of the Additional Tasks, INCLUDING the week 12 summary of a paragraph on ‘Technical Fascism’, with uploaded original paragraph, and your notes, must be completed for a score of 17 or above

That the marks are out of 20 is what they were trying to avoid communicating to the students and teachers. The instructions are so convoluted that it requires cryptography to glean that a student can pass with all * Tasks completed, and at least 5 Compulsory Tasks, which as a minimum was doubtless craved by Indonesian students of English, who perhaps weren’t in a position, language wise, to be able to comprehend it, despite iteration, which ought to have clarified, but merely added to the obfuscation:

  • 10-12: PASS
  • For a score of 10 and over, you must complete; all * Tasks, most Compulsory Tasks (5 tasks)
  • 13-16: STRONG PASS
  • For a score of 13 and over, you must complete all * Tasks, all Compulsory Tasks, some Additional Tasks (2 tasks)
  • 17-20: EXCEPTIONAL
  • For a score of 17 and over, you must complete all * Tasks, all Compulsory Tasks, most Additional Tasks (4 tasks), some Self-Study Tasks

For pedophile slavers, working on the margins, calculating for syndicates, waging betting wars to show that they’ve backed winners, or whoever’ll be placed, after the placement tests are won, students and teachers are expected to display concern in personal interactions; just short of genuine affection: for the sake of the cosmetic appearance of Fagin’s pickpockets, ‘Please, sir, I want some more.’ (2) Despite the plaint of Oliver ‘Everyman’ Twist, as expressed in Charles Dickens’ novel of the 19th century poor, Oliver Twist (1838), the socioeconomic views of learner and learned, with regard to the desirability of education to obviate the criminal boys and girls gangs, represented by elderly London fence, Fagin, depend on the discouraging of those offering Quality Street sweets (1), while gangsters satisfy their desire for suites at hotels, and slave traffic’s all one way.

The establishment’s modern education system, obviously delaying punishment for Everyman Oliver, is the dark cages of 21st century computerism, where work-at-home slavery in poorly lit cubicles, with flickering screens, are reminiscent of Fanny By Gaslight (1940), a novel by Michael Sadleir of the prostitutes of the Victorian age. (3) As an ultra-modern generation of poverty stricken work the screens beneath the batteries of the enemy lowering at their abused eyes, Sadleir’s understanding is salutary, ‘Why would I desire beautiful discourse when I perceive the soul of another within my own?’ (4) Being worked to death, as a slave, is rather demonic than inspired; demons, who without explaining that telecommunications aren’t for understanding their QR codes, would prefer that the teacher just chalk.
